Milliard Full Size Memory Foam Futon Mattress, Light Gray

Purchased this futon mattress to use on a futon. It is not fit for purpose. The mattress is ostensibly made from memory foam, one of my favorite substances on the planet, responsible for rescuing my sanity and my spine from damage from a decade working in a lumberyard and driving a V8 1960's muscle car with no suspension to speak of and spending my weekends camping in bizarre spots. As usual, I gave this mattress about six hours to decompress from its vacuum sealed storage state. It expanded to a maximum thickness of 4.5", which is about a third shy of the advertised 7". Let it sit a bit longer and that's about where it stopped. More bizarrely, the mattress is single-sided. For a futon mattress, especially a memory foam one, not to be reversible to rotate, is a bizarre design choice. Okay, fine. Memory foam is great with density. I could all but feel the grain of the wood slats on the futon frame on my buttocks through the immediately collapsed foam. I shudder to think what bizarre shape my spine would be in if I tried to sleep on this hateful thing. I have thrown away pieces of packaging foam with more support than this mattress, so it doesn't even make sense to save it as scrap for packaging or use in upholstery projects. Now. Understand that I know that this is a thin and cheap futon mattress meant to go on a futon frame in a studio lounge for the purpose of seating friends while playing music together or becoming a guest bedroom in a pinch. It doesn't have to be the nicest thing in the world to sleep on. But it *does* have to be better than sleeping directly on the floor. I'm going to be attempting to wrangle it down two flights of stairs and into my poor little Toyota to try to return it to the poor Target employees and be unable to look them in the eye because they are great people and do not deserve to be saddled with this mess. But it's not like I in any way can put a mattress back in a box to mail it back to the distributor. What. A. Disappointment.
