Q: What is the maximum weight limit of this bike?

submitted by Blaze - 5 years ago
  • A: The bikes don't have a set weight limit due to the testing done to meet industry standards. The bikes are tested at a variety of weights and forces and several factors determine how much weight a bike can hold such as tire psi, maintenance, and riding style. Thank you.

  • A: I'd say 300+ lbs. Why? My brother is 6'4 and he sat his burly (another word for a donkey) on the bike and he was fine. He rode it and tried unsuccessfully to buy it off me.

submitted byGeeselord - 4 years ago
  • A: They say 40-60 pounds, give or take 5 pounds or so. The frame isn't that high speed fiber composite you'd find on bikes 1k plus. But, you knew that already didn't you?

submitted byGeeselord - 4 years ago

Q: I am 5" 3 1/2" Tall, will this bike fit me?

submitted by Steve - 4 years ago
  • A: We suggest a rider height range starting at 5'2" so this should be a great fit. The Dolomite has a 28" stand over which correlates to the rider's inseam for best sizing. Enjoy the trails! Nicole

Q: If I order a bike,will I get it fully assembled?

submitted by Hanif - 6 years ago
  • A: Hi Hanif - Bikes purchased on Target.com using Home Delivery or Ship-to-Store delivery won't be assembled. Bikes purchased on Target.com using Order Pickup may be assembled because they're purchased from available store inventory. To search Target.com for assembled bikes available for purchase using our Order Pickup service, select pick up today eligible from the availability filter. Thanks!

Q: Does this bike come in a 20-22 inch frame. I am 6'3" and need a large to Xlarge frame

Q: Hi, I’m trying to determine if the bike will be a good fit. What is the height of the top tube when assembled? What would the stand over height need to be? Thanks!

submitted by AMC - 6 years ago
  • A: The stand over height with the top tube for this bike is about 31" to 32". Thank you.

Q: I notice that the pictures of the bike show two different types of tires. Does the bike come with the tires that are more knobby (The picture with the seat lower) or does it come with tires with a smoother tread (the picture with the seat higher)?

submitted by Nolan - 6 years ago
  • A: The Dolomite comes with a 26x4 knobby tire. The tire will look like the photo that is more focused on the chain and crank set area.

Bought one, had so many things wrong with it, returned it for another one, that one had issues as well - the seat becomes disengaged, and 1 of the pedals became loose & wobbly, so I can now either return this one, or buy a new pedal & new seat from a third party to fix these deficiencies on this brand new bike. I will never buy this crappy brand again.

Beachguy - 5 years ago, Verified purchaser
It is a nice beach bike and was almost completely put together. There were no missing parts. The only problem was the mental front round disc brake piece was bent. Target online chat made an adjustment in the price because of that. Bike rides well on semi-wet sand but not so well in semi-dry sand. With a head wind, it is a slow slog to your destination but on the way back, you will fly! The slim seat will have to be replaced as it is not comfortable to sit on when riding. I would have given a 5 star but didn't because of the bent disc brake. The Dolomite is well put together for the price.

I love this bike. I ride hundreds of miles through the forest preserve during the year on my regular bike and wanted a fat tire to keep me active through the harsh Illinois winters. This bike is so much fun to ride in snow and off-trail in mud and over ice. Uphills are a great work out. Love it! I'm a female, 40 yrs old, 5'4" 135 lbs. I love the workout. It's heavy yes but if I can lift this bad boy up into the back of my Nissan Xterra... Then you can handle it. I've had so many people stop and ask about this bike. It's a head turner, alright. I don't have thousands to spend on a Fat tire with 3 kids so this is perfect. I spent $260, came mostly assembled. Put in the work and you won't regret it. Tire pressure means everything though! You'll love it.

the bike came close to fully assembled, I just had to install the handle bars, seat, pedals and front tire. The only problem I encountered was the preload on the front wheel bearings was too tight. I adjusted the preload and added more grease to the bearings. That was really the only issue I had with the bike. I'm going swap out the handle bars and add an adjustable stem post to make the bike fit me alittle better. Compared to what's available at our local bike shops, this was an inexpensive way for me to try out a fat tire bike.

First of all let me say that for $270 you cant get much in the bike world but you at least expect something decent to ride but no I was very disappointed in this bike, the bike looked great and ALMOST everything worked except for one thing, the break disk, when we assembled it was very easy but when we finally got to the front wheel we put it on and when turning we noticed some rubbing on the disk break but we thought it was just normal and was just breaking in like a normal bike or shoe but as we got a closer look after riding it for a few MINUTES we noticed metal shavings coming from the bike and immediately looked at the disk break and low and behold the rubbing was causing the metal shavings leading the disk to shave off half the width of the disk. My conclusion is that I'm probably going to return it or try to get it fixed and this is a big waste of time and money.
1 reply from MongooseCustomerSupport team - 6 years ago
Hi Jodi - the disc brakes on your new Dolomite definitely shouldn't be doing that and we'd be happy to help make things right. Mongoose bikes come with a warranty so give us a call at 1-800-626-2811 so we can get you riding smoothly. Thank you.

This bike looks really nice and gets a lot of attention but it’s a little bit too heavy for me. I know is a fat tire bike but the tires were bigger than expected. Overall the bike rides good going downhill and flat roads but don’t try going up a hill with this beast you’ll be dead. Also came with a slight defect on the frame.

probably have to tinker with it a little to get it just so, the seat... probably needs a better one... if u value your assets, tighten ALL the fitting on it with the appropriate size wrench (u do have tools, yes? ) I will probably get a CHEAP/WIDE $5 inner tube, cut the valve stem out of it and use it as a tread/tube liner so that thorns do not puncture the tire/tube; put it between the inner tube that is in there and the BACK tire... as I wud any bike as thorns are prevalent here and fixing 7 flats in 3 days because I was CHEAP and didn't get the HEVI WATE INNER TUBES on my last NEW bike was .... and education to do IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME so I didn't have to do it again... and again and again. SLIME is hard to get into the tires through the NARROW hole in the air thingy even with the Schrader valve removed. LOCKS, U LOCKS AND HEVI WATE CHAIN... if u want to keep the bike; as sometimes they ride off by themselves if left anywhere. cable "locks" are ornaments (don't ask how I KNOW this) and not worth throwing out. some gearheads have taken the bearings apart and greased them and have said they are tightened TOO TIGHT from the factory, but DO NOT LOSE THE BEARINGS!!! carpet catches bearings, hard floors=scattered bearings=bad. tires are said to be HEAVY compared to after market, but that is not all bad as once get the tires rolling... INERTIA KEEPS THEM ROLLING with a little effort so that is good. like kicking the clutch out on a BIG TRUCK on the highway... it will coast a LONG WAY with all that weigh/inertia built up in its mass/wheels/tires.

I had to do some tweeting on this bike to make it work to my liking. Such as: 1. One of the inserts for the front tire was bent and I had to use vice grips to straighten it to make the tire fit. 2. The gears had to be adjusted to work properly. 3. The breaks needed to be adjusted to make the bike stop properly. 4. The front disc break was rubbing (I fixed it) Yes...this bike comes particularly preassembly. If you don't know how to work on bikes, I would suggest you take it to a bike shop to make sure everything is working properly. Other than that I love this bike. I get compliments all the time. I mainly use it while I'm camping. The camp gound is HUGE where we Camp and I make heads turn when they see it. I can also ride along the waster shore at the camp ground. Bottom line...this bike is very, very cool. If you purchase one, you'll love it. TARGET.COM HAS THE BEST PRICES FOR THIS BIKE.

the bike is fun, but you'll need to have the ability to adjust the brakes, front and rear. the rear derailer also needs adjusting. i'm pretty good and used u-tube for help. third gear is still a pain... all the other gears work good. do not expect to have a 1,000 dollar quality bike store bicycle, but it is excellent for the price. see how much a bike store will charge to assemble before purchase.

Seths Bike Hacks - 8 years ago
It's hard for me to complain about the Mongoose Dolomite, since it's a sub $200 fat bike. No, it doesn’t shift nicely, and yes, it has one of those terrible seat clamps with the bolts on the sides. It’s precisely compromises like these that make super cheap bikes possible. So with that understanding, I'll give an overview of this bike's strong and weak points. First of all the paint job is impressive. Even the rims have a nice red powder coat on them, which does a pretty good job of hiding this huge weld. The saddle is also quite comfortable. The rear derailleur is from Shimano's Tourney group set, which is suspiciously absent from their website. Although I see it available for $6 on the internet, I think it might be the most expensive part on this entire drivetrain. Speaking of drivetrains, I've gotta give credit to Mongoose for setting this up with a 1x. This makes the bike much cleaner and more mechanically sound. With that said, I think they should have chosen a smaller chainring for the front. At 47 pounds, this thing is pretty hard to pedal on flat, let alone on sand or up hill. I will say though that it's lighter than my last bike by a full pound—of course on that bike I packed the components with sand and pumped the tires full of water. The disc brakes suck terribly, but surprisingly they are totally adjustable like normal ones. Most department store bikes are built in some proprietary way that makes them difficult or impossible to service. This bike breaks that trend to some extent. That makes me wonder if a better set of pads would improve the stopping power. For now, all I need to do is stop pedaling and the bike comes to standstill pretty fast. I was especially happy to see a threadless headset. Compared to a threaded headset and quill stem, this feels incredibly solid, and dare I say—safe. I expect this headset to hold up much better than my last one, and I also expect the alignment to stay put. I have ridden quite a few fat tire bikes, and they were generally heavy and sluggish compared to their skinny counterparts. Still, I was always pleasantly surprised at how well they handled for their size. Not this bike. Sure, if you pump the tires to 20PSI it rolls and steers well, but it’s then useless on sand or chattery terrain. Reduce the pressure to 10 PSI, like a real fat bike, and its off-road performance does improve. Unfortunately, this makes the bike extremely difficult to control, as the steering pulls whichever way you’re turning. I think this is due to the cheap tires, which are pretty thick and shaped oddly. I also think wider bars and a shorter stem would make this bike easier to manage. If you have this bike and want to give it an upgrade, I might recommend that shorter stem paired with cheap set of 760mm bars. Even after these shortcomings, I firmly believe this Mongoose Dolomite is a marvel of engineering. Like I said, everything on this is a compromise, designed to keep it below $200. As a society we asked for a cheap fat bike, and here it is. It may seem like certain things could have been made better for the same price though. For instance, would a smaller chainring in the front have changed the price? Well, maybe. You see these bikes benefit from economies of scale, or using parts that can be produced in mass quantity. So, it could have been that this very popular crankset/chainring combination was actually the cheapest route. This scenario is very likely, and is probably the case for many other parts on this bike. So, we don’t really have the right to nitpick the gear ratio. So now for the real question; why did I buy this bike? Why not a nice fat bike? Well, I have some plans which I wouldn’t have the heart to carry out on a bike like that. If you’ve been following my videos, you could probably guess that the Dolomite is gonna have a rough week. Stay tuned, because in the next video, things might get a little salty. Thanks for riding with me today, and I'll see you next time.

My True Thoughts on the Dolomite... Despite the poor workmanship when techs put bike together, the fact that it comes with (front and rear) Disc Brakes and a rear Derailleur, and huge 4inch wide Rims and Tires, I just can not see myself complaining of any aspect. The Brakes might be shotty but, eventually you have to change the Pads anyways; so when you do, get quality Brake Pads and maybe even a quality ROTOR. Bottom line, my opinion, you get more than what you pay for. Plus a robust frame... I PAINTED MY BIKE BLACK MATTE. DONT YOU JUST LOVE IT....
