Description

Take on steep slopes and tough trails with confidence on the Scepter Mountain Bike from Mongoose. Made for experienced mountain bikers and new riders alike, this hardtail mountain bike is built with a durable steel mountain frame and front suspension fork that are designed to take the abuse of bumps and dips found on dirt paths and trails. 21-speed twist shifters and the mountain bike rear derailleur offer complete control over resistance and speed while traveling, giving you a wide gear range and letting you fine-tune your ride as you go. The Scepter benefits from light and strong alloy rims that help lighten the load and knobby mountain tires that dig into dirt, sand or grass on your toughest rides. Slowing down to a halt, even on a steep hill, is simple thanks to the linear pull brakes. Add in the steel 3-piece crank for superior gearing and there's only one choice for your next mountain ride.

It looked like a used bike. The brake wires were twisted around the frame so couldn’t turn on direction. I ended up returning the same day.

Hi. We're sorry to hear this happened. We would be happy to send any replacements needed for the damaged derailleur, along with steps for the adjustments. This type of damage can happen when the rear derailleur is out of adjustment (either the cable is a bit too tight, or the lower pulley is bent a little too close to the spokes and gets caught.) While this part is set in- the factory, it can shift/bend during shipping or with an extra big bump or fall throughout your adventures. For this reason, the suggestion to check the position of your rear derailleur and instructions for adjustments are included in your owner’s manual. This is considered general maintenance and adjustments for your bike to keep it in good condition. Please reach out to our Consumer Care Center or Direct message us your information on Facebook, Instagram, or twitter and we'd be happy to assist! We can be reached at 800-626-2811 Monday-Friday 7 am-6 pm CST. Warm Regards.

Mjwestiq - 7 months ago
As many have said the derailer falls off and jams the spokes ruining the tire as well. Took it to my neighborhood bike shop and he laughed when I walked in and showed me 2 others with same issue. Said these are notoriously cheap and the error is common. I look here to recall what I paid for it and the first 3 reviews had the same issue. Got about 1 summer of use out of it.

My son was so excited about this bike but it's never worked quite right. Glad we bought the protection plan because the final straw was changing gears and the track locking around a tire spoke. Not great for the price. He liked the look and feel.

John - 9 months ago
This Bike is not worth it, it is very expensive for its extremely poor quality. The first time I got it, I shifted the gear 1 level and it it was stuck and did not work anymore. It is also very heavy and clunky to ride, they used very cheap material. Thankfully the return process was easy but I would not recommend this bike.

Hi John: So sorry about your experience with our product, but glad you were able to make a successful return. Received this bike and the post for the handle barsis on backwards. There is no way to turn it around. without a lot of force and scratching up the handle bar. This bike now has to be returned. ALso, I live in a cross border city which means I need to return this back to the US and bring a new one back to Canada. I took a chance and Target and Mongoose let me down. The box was damaged upon receiving the item too. There was a huge hole in the middle. Not happy. If zero stars was an option i would have selected zero.

Awesome Mountain Bike

Mongoose- Mongoose Scepter 24" Mountain Bike, 24" wheels, 21 speeds, in Green/Blue color is an awesome mountain bike. Very easy to assemble, too. Mongoose brings its “push the limits” attitude to mountain bikes. The Standoff has a full suspension frame and front suspension fork so it will be comfortable chewing up rough terrain, and with 21 speeds and thick knobby tires nothing will stand in your way. Take it on the trail or adventure off the trail onto some gnarly single track. There is nothing you can't do on a Mongoose. Children must be 10 - 15 years old with a height of 4'8"-5'6" I highly recommend this mountain bike.

Great Bike

The Mongoose Scepter 24" Mountain Bike, 24 inch wheels, 21 speeds, Green/Blue is such a great bike. The colors are very vivid. My daughter rides this bike because she doesn't want a girly big color. This was perfect or her. The build took my husband about two and half hours, the brakes and gears was a little tricky and took time. The box arrived in good condition with a few minor scuffs/ scratches on actual bike. All parts were included but directions were pretty easy to follow. Bike rides nice and gears shift as expected. My daughters only complaint is the seat is hard and not comfortable. She is 10 years old and 4'7" and this 24" bike is perfect for her. I think she can use this for a few more years. I highly recommend the Mongoose Scepter 24" Mountian Bike, 24 inch wheels, 21 speeds, Green/Blue.

I love how this bike looks and rides! It was used on paved bike paths as well as gravel trails and it worked great! The 21-speed twist shifters make it great for adjusting to inclines and rugged trails. It shifts very easily and smoothly. I love that it has front and rear brakes and the brakes work great on this bike. It was very easy to assemble because the instructions that came with it were clear and easy to follow. The illustrations were very helpful also. I was able to adjust the seat and the handle bars easily and love that the seat can be adjusted without any tools! The tires on this bike are great. Perfect for a rugged trail and they seem very durable. The frame is very sturdy with great suspension. I have found the quality of this bike to be great and am very pleased with it. I highly recommend it.

Poorly Made/Cheap Parts

CeejLo - 10 months ago
Pretty much everything broke on this bike within six months of use. Both tubes exploded on a normal, low impact ride. The derailleur broke after only about a month, and now the shifter is broken. We also just discovered that the rear wheel is dangerously wobbly and a bearing may be missing. A bike mechanic said the repairs/replacement parts would likely cost more than the bike is worth. I would definitely not recommend anyone purchase this bike. Its parts seem to be of the lowest possible quality.

The only bad thing was the bike was in a box and I had to put together, but directions are very easy. The bike is beautiful. The color is bright. The bike rides with no issues. I let my kids try it and see how they liked it. They had no complaints. The seat was comfortable and it seems like you can take it in the dirt or on the road.
