About the Book
Nested in Modernity is the first scholarly book to investigate a single heritage site in Qatar: the palace of Sheikh ʿAbd Allah bin Jasim Al Thani in Doha.Book Synopsis
Nested in Modernity is the first scholarly book to investigate a single heritage site in Qatar: the palace of Sheikh ʿAbd Allah bin Jasim Al Thani in Doha. Physically embraced by the new National Museum today, this esteemed architectural complex is widely regarded as an anchoring point of national identity. Yet, no prior study has traced its history from foundation to the present day or analysed the functions of its various structures. This richly illustrated volume aims to accomplish just that, whilst it also features virtual 3D reconstructions of the site during its heyday, the 1920s, inviting you on a visual journey. This book is a co-publication of Brill and Qatar Museums.
About the Author
Péter Tamás Nagy, D.Phil. (2021), University of Oxford is Heritage and Architecture Interpretation Specialist at Qatar Museums, Doha. Most of his research has focused on Islamic architecture in Morocco, with his thesis investigating the site of Shālla (Rabat) and the history of analogous royal funerary monuments in the region. He is also interested in the modern discovery and reception of Islamic architecture, including how buildings have been studied, perceived, and occasionally imitated in Europe. In his current position with Qatar Museums, he investigates the architectural heritage of the country, focusing on royal palaces built in the 20th century. The present monograph is the main accomplishment of this project to date.Suggested Age: 22 Years and Up
