Grate with the cap on to collect ingredients before serving, or slide the cap to remove it and grate directly onto a dish. Q: how do you clean this
submitted by donna - 8 years ago
A: That wasn't much of an explanation from Arielle. No duh take it apart. I felt like a caveman trying to take this apart. Took forever. The handle you turn to grate the cheese screws off. Try to keep the inner cylinder still somehow without cutting up your hand and turn the handle counter clock wise. Handle should come off, allowing the inner cylinder to slide off. Voila. Good luck.
submitted byhyukster - 6 years agoA: Hi donna, I'm Arielle with OXO. Our suggestions would be to take this apart and wash it on the top rack in the dishwasher. Thanks for your question! Thoughtfully yours, OXO

Q: are there different types of inserts available to change how the cheese is grated/shredded?
submitted by cole - 7 years ago
A: Not that I know of. However, soft cheese grates slightly different than hard cheese and the temperature of the cheese also has a bearing.

This manual cheese shredder does not work as I thought it would. I read a negative review but I thought it might be different for me — it was also true in my experience using this hand held cheese shredder. I hope I can return it.

Cheese would get stuck in barrel. Even holding barrel down towards bowl so cheese could fall out it would clog up inside the barrel. I returned mine.

Don’t buy. The cheese gets stuck and then you have to scoop it out. I’m super bummed I wasted 18$ on this piece of crap.

If I could give this zero stars I would! Advertised as a cheese grater, I expected it to be able to grate cheddar cheese for Mac n cheese. Instead all the cheese got stuck in the metal wheel and was impossible to get out without digging with my fingers (gross!). There was nothing on the package indicating it wouldn't work for semi soft cheese. Waste of money, time, and good cheese

Terrible. Cheese gets stuck in and it doesn’t actually grate it. It becomes sludgy inside. Cheese gets caught up in the grater and you have to pick it out with a knife. It ends up becoming more work than a classic cheese grater. It also grates way too thin.

Good value & good quality product. Yes, as other reviewers acknowledge, this works best on hard cheeses, but there are ways to make it work with cheeses that are not as hard as parmesan. I might even have fun and try making chocolate shavings with it. Easy to use, sturdy enough product, good value. My only quibble is it does not come with a brush to facilitate cleaning the interior. I plan on giving this as gifts this year!

It grates it so small, it gets clogged in the tube and then basically becomes lodged in there as a giant chunk. Ease of use though was easy.

This is absolutely great! Anyone on here giving a bad review trying to grate Brie cheese is just stupid. The product works great when it’s used as intended. Guess this is why we need instruction labels on everything. Jeez.

This thing can only grate very hard cheeses like Parmesan. I tried to grate aged Gruyere, aged Gouda, and Sharp Cheddar. All of them gummed up. Parmesan was fine. Anything less hard than Parmesan gums up in the grater and you have to use a metal chopstick to scrape it off, then poke out the squishy chunks of cheese it creates. Even if you freeze the cheese first it will squish in the exit and need to be scraped out. Absolutely awful, immediately threw it away. Do not buy this.

Started off well. This is plastic and lasted 3 months before I felt like turning the handle would cause a combustion. It stopped turning bc the plastic pieces inside get clogged w cheese immediately even after washing. Spend a tiny bit more and get yourself a stainless steel one that’ll last. With Targets return policy they won’t return after 3 months so perfect time to break on me.
Decent; could be cheaper though

Pretty good for shredding parmesan cheese, which is a cheese I prefer to eat fresh. Gets a little difficult to use in the sense that it could be smoother, sometimes you have to fight it a little, but good kitchen utensil. I think it should be cheaper, but I needed one at the time. It also comes apart and is pretty easy to clean.

I had the older version and this one is so much better. Sturdier and much improved. Easy to use. I recommend it if you're looking for a cheese grater.

Disappointing. Low quality. The cheese gets stuck inside the grater and ends up being more work than it’s worth.

Cheese immediately gets stuck in the grater and is hard to get out. I think it’s only meant for hard cheese like Parmesan. Definitely did not perform as expected.

This may work specifically for the hardest cheese, but anything else will be grated and promptly trapped into the cylinder, reforming into a loose block of cheese that is impossible to nicely remove without crushing and scraping. The sturdy construction and the visually sensible concept (you'd think that if gravity couldn't drop the cheese from the grater compartment, they would at least make the cylinder bigger so you could remove the grated cheese and it wouldn't get stuck) do nothing to help save this from being a worthless endeavor.
