I used this for about a week and it has made my scalp so itchy and irritated, causing a bald spot on my scalp (which never has happened, I have tons of curly hair). Then I checked the ingredients- it scores a 2/100 on the Yuka app with Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone (both banned in Europe, Canada, and Australia) with the latter being connected to neurotoxicity in rats. Do not waste your money.

This shampoo has always been something my father wanted me to use as a little girl. Growing up I didn't stick to it and am so glad I came back to using it. It leaves my fine hair feeling hydrated and silky. Best shampoo hands down!

I have been using Tea Tree Thickening Shampoo, Tea Tree Thickening Conditioner, and Awapuhi Shampoo for over a decade. These new formulas, like all the reviews below state, is horrible. Bad smell, bad formula, etc. Seems like this unneeded change was done to a lot of PM's products. Seems like a move so bad I had to look up and see if Paul Mitchell had been bought up by a Private Equity Firm (which are known for buying successful companies up, to only lower quality and costs to make a fast profit then let the company die and use the debt for other investments via the confusing system that is our economy). Paul Mitchell, please return to the old formulas. (Note: Not sure why, but after I posted my first bad review I was unable to leave further reviews under my old Nickname. Since I want to review all 3 of the products I used, please know these are not spam reviews.)

If I could give it no stars I would. It leaves my hair so greasy. Definitely not worth it for the price that is paid for this bottle.

I DO NOT like the new formula. I will not be buying again unless it changes back!

PM claims this shampoo contains awapuhi extract, like the old one from the 80s. However, awapuhi is not listed as an ingredient. Why make false claims?

Smooth, silky feel

I have been a lover of Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi line for more than 25 years! I love that all of his products are derived from nature and there is not one of his products that I have ever experienced a disappointment with. I also love that Paul Mitchell’s shampoo & conditioners are tear-free, I use it and I also use it for all of my grandchildren ages 2, 3 and 5. I also love that the shampoo is very rich and a little goes a long way. I was so happy to see this on Target’s store shelves, I can get all of my shopping done now in one place.

I have been using this shampoo for a loooong time! Sometimes I'd switch to other brands but always come back to this. As I get older, I'm 63, my hair gets dryer but this shampoo really hydrates it. And the smell is amazing!!

New formula is awful. Makes my hair greasy. Very disappointed it changed. Wish I could get a refund on my brand new huge bottle.

The BEST

Disappointed to find that this is not quite what I remember of the Classic. The fragrance disappears after hair is dry. Hair feel and appearance is mediocre. Only plus I can say at this point is that my scalp feels clean after use, considering that this is meant to be a clarifying shampoo.

I've been using this product for years but they recently changed the formula and it smells awful! I compared my old bottle to the new one just to confirm and the ingredients have changed. Never going to use this product again. It's unfortunate as it's been a favorite and works well but it's not worth grimacing at the smell every time I take a shower.

I’ve been using Paul Mitchell since I was in high school and it first came out. It was love at first big hairstyle! I refuse to use anything else. I wash my hair daily and it has left my hair shiny, soft, and still 80s big!

I usually use Shampoo One, but decided to mix it up. My head started itching within a few days, and got progressively worse. It took me few weeks to figure out that it was the shampoo causing it, because my conditioner and product remained the same. I was shedding significant amounts of hair while using this shampoo. On a plus, it lathered very well and had a very clean, pleasant scent. I would NOT recommend this shampoo, though.

Practically all of Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioners are designed to pair together. If you buy a certain type of shampoo, it has a conditioner of the similar type, design and formulation to go along with it, so you can the full benefits of the product features. Where is the Awapuhi Conditioner that should go with this shampoo? This product, the shampoo itself is FABULOUS, just a little strong with the scent/fragrance - that could be toned down - but it works great! But it needs a conditioner to match it so that I don't have to use a different type of conditioner that isn't designed for this product line.

I've been using Awapuhi shampoo for over 15 years and it has kept my hair full and moisturized. My hair stylist at my salon marvels at how amazing my full head of hair is at age 65. You don't need to use a huge amount to get your hair full of cleansing lather. Once you try it, I promise you'll never use anything else sgain!

This shampoo and conditioner set worked well and the only thing I didn’t love was the smell but still great ingredients!

I shampoo and condition daily, and as I looked at the reviews saying this shampoo was very striping and clarifying, i thought I have to see for myself. I found that this is the best daily shampoo and it was very moisturizing.
