The adapter must plug into a DisplayPort SOURCE of video (e.g. your PC). You can then plug your video DISPLAY (TV, Monitor) into the back of the adapter. The DisplayPort end of the adapter must be plugged into the source of the video, and cannot be plugged into a monitor/TV.

My GPU only had 1 HDMI out on it, but did have 3 Display Port outs. I never knew my motherboard's HDMI was nonfunctional until now. This solved the problem when we added the drawing tablet (dual monitors now) and I still have the ability to plug my PC into any other monitor with only HDMI ports.

I bought this for a monitor that doesn’t have a HDMI port, only a display port. My laptop has HDMI port. When I tried to use it, nothing happened and monitor was never recognized. Returning tomorrow!
