switch and bait
very upset that this product touts itself as traditional, but is made from cow's milk, not goat or sheep. I am on a strict diet that forbids cow's milk and was ignorant of this switcheroo. The back label says "mil" in small print, implying cow's milk--if it were other than that, they woiuld brag about it. If you're selling yourself as "traditional," the kind of milk should be clearly stated for those who want traditional milk sources or have medical needs.

Great for recipes
This feta went perfectly as a great addition to my grilled watermelon recipe. Perfect amount of sour and sweet. Very fresh and easy to open packaging.

Good value for the price, mild flavor
My favorite types of feta differ depending on what I’m using them for. I like Valbreso (creamy French sheep’s milk feta in brine) for salads and other fresh applications as well as on a cheese plate. It has a fresher, less briney, milky taste. I like Bulgarian for its pungent, sharp, salty flavor. I love it in omelettes or other egg dishes. Athenos feta is much cheaper and much more easily accessible than either the of the aforementioned cheeses and I think it has a nice versatility because it’s salty and doesn’t have a gamey taste the way Bulgarian feta does. It’s less creamy than I’d like, but for the price point it’s nice on salads, in omelettes, and other savory applications.

So good!
If you’re a feta lover like me, Athenians Feta Cheese Crumbles are chef’s kiss. The texture is perfectly crumbly without being dry, and the flavor hits that ideal balance of salty, tangy, and creamy. It instantly elevates everything — from salads and grain bowls to omelets and pasta dishes. I love how convenient the crumbles are too — no mess, no slicing, just pop it open and sprinkle away. It’s especially great for quick meals or when you're hosting and want to make something look (and taste) fancy with minimal effort. Pro tip: Try tossing it on roasted veggies or mixing into watermelon for that classic sweet-salty combo. You’ll be obsessed. Definitely a staple in my fridge from now on!

Why cellulose powder
I just want to say I love the product it's very well made. Bit when looking at the ingredients I noticed they use powdered cellulose as there anti caking agent instead of potato starch. Not sure why.
1 reply from Athenos team - 1 year ago
Hello! Wonderful to hear and great question. We use the powdered cellulose over the potato starch due to the cellulose having a better ability to absorb moisture without significantly altering the taste or texture of the cheese, while potato starch can sometimes affect the browning characteristics and overall mouthfeel. Thank you for your positive feedback and for being a fan, Chris!

NOT traditional at all & NOT a true feta
NOT traditional at all. It is made from the milk of cows, not sheep! One thing that makes real feta so lovely is that people who cannot tolerate dairy milk from cows can often do well with cheeses made from sheep &/or goat milk. Claiming to be traditional when not using tradition components is just plain insulting to the trust of the consumer, & mocks the real thing. Shame on Athenos/Emmi Roth brand!

This is not actually feta cheese
This company uses cow’s milk, but feta is supposed to be made with sheep’s milk. I have literally never seen feta made with cow milk before my husband (understandably) bought this thinking it was safe. Consider changing the label to “feta-style” or something, or make it abundantly clear on the label that it’s made with cow dairy.

tasty cheese, cute container, good price
We do enjoy the cheese and I like the little container with the perky green lid. Is there a way to remove your label from the container when the cheese is gone? I'd love to keep it for snacks and small amounts of food...but it would be much nicer if it had the labels off. Great opportunity for recycling here!

No identification of what milk you use
I can't believe that I can't find anywhere what exactly milk is used??? Cow, sheep, goat? Because Traditional feta cheese is made from sheep or goat milk. Your label just states "Milk". Who knows what it means.
