Molds your documents
Do not purchase. The safe is not well ventilated and does not seem to allow for any moisture to escape. All my documents were ruined with moisture and mold. I live in Kentucky which is a humid environment. I added descant packages and baking soda and restored the documents - it molded again.

Hi Tony, Thank you for your feedback. The Honeywell Waterproof Fire Chest 811533 should be opened and aired out for at least 30 minutes every week to prevent any build up of moisture inside. This will balance the humidity difference inside and outside and allow any excess moisture trapped inside to escape. For more information regarding interior moisture please view the instruction manual.

Wish it wes more clear
I see the reviews now about mold and that happened to me with my pass port and other documents. I see now that you have to air it out but I wish I read that before because I would not have gotten this model. The door is really heavy, and it feels like it would be a hazard around pets or kids to leave open for 30 minutes each week.

Mold!
Put my documents in here for one week. Now they are full of mold. I read a similar review before purchasing and decided to look past it unfortunately. Would not recommend.

Too small for 8-1/2 x 11 papers!
I bought this to hold important papers laying flat. Although it advertises this feature, it is too small. Papers will need to be folded to fit in this. You can see how the edge of the paper has to curl up to fit inside in the picture. Ridiculous. Returning.

Who would design a safe for storing papers that is 1/10 inch to small
I purchased this chest/safe to keep important papers in etc. The specifications clearly state it can store A4 and Letter documents laying flat. The online spec also states the safe 's Interior Dimensions are: 3.7 Inches (H), 13.1 Inches (W), 8.5 Inches (D) - Depth is actually the width when storing documens. It is actually only 8.4 inches wide making it 1/10 of an inch to small to store 'Letter' documents flat. The specification online differs from the actual Safe where it does state it is only 8.4 inches wide - What genius would design a safe/chest to store papers that is 8.4 inches wide instead of 8.5 inches (letter document size).

Junk! Easy break in!
Super easy to break in! Worse safe ever. Thief used a flat screw to break in and stole my life savings. Angry and disappointed in this pc of junk. It’s a safe for a reason. Don’t waste your money unless you are just storing papers.

Broke a few months after buying
Bought less than 3 months ago and it’s already broken. Red lock won’t disengage even though key and switch turn as normal. Piece of junk.

Not true to size
Advertized as 8 1/2" wide, but really 8 1/4". If you buy this thinking your important papers will lay flat, you will be disappointed. Ignore the vendor feedback that "the chest cavity narrows slightly at the bottom." While factually true, even the top is less than 8 1/2".

Mildew
Like other reviewers, it made our important documents and passports mildewy and damp. I was shocked because we live in a very dry climate.

Dear Sarah, Thank you for your feedback. Due to the airtight seal on fire and waterproof chests, you will need to air out your unit as indicated in your manual. The suggested air-out time is occasionally once or twice every 2 weeks for at least 30 minutes.
