Q: It says it's for indoor, but the lights are rated for outdoor. Would it be safe to use outside?

A: Unfortunately no. Only the lights are UL Rated for outdoor use. Not the tree.

Well, bought this for next year as on sale. Did NOT try lights yet, But did unpack and pull down branches out. At first it seemed too skinny and too sparse but then I pulled down shorter branches too and then looked great. Probably if I work on it a little more it will look even lusher. Pot seems a trifle small. Looks ok but hoping tree won't fall over. Overall shape very nice. Am NOT packing up and squashing it again, but leaving it as is, with plastic over it.
