Profiles in Terror is a highly useful, well-organized compendium of information concerning terrorist organizations, terrorist leaders, and terrorist events around the world. Whether the reader is well versed in the subject or just beginning to acquire knowledge, Profiles in Terror will prove itself a most valuable resource.
A straightforward profile of twenty modern-day terrorist organizations operating in the Middle East and the regional groups affiliated with them. Including detailed descriptions of each group's ideology and objectives, history, leadership, organization, external relations, financial support networks, target and tactics, and much more, Profiles in Terror is filled with crucial information for anyone researching modern history, crucially interested in American security, or striving to better understand the darker side of world politics. Highly recommended.
Aaron Mannes has done a remarkable job of summarizing a wide range of sources on the seven major terrorist networks in the Middle East: Al Qaeda, Abu Nidal, Hamas, Hizbullah, Kurdistan Workers' Party, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the PLO and its affiliates.
An excellent compendium on terrorism for the student as well as the expert.
Highly recommended.
Mannes shows that the anti-Israel jihad movement has opened many doors for the establishment of relationships between terrorist groups with competing and contradictory ideologies
One of the strengths ofProfiles in Terror is the comprehensiveness of the coverage of these groups in a single compendium in terms of their ideology and objectives, history, leadership, organization, financial support, links to states and terrorist organizations, areas of operation, targets and tactics, and chronology of their activities.
This is a richly detailed source and a good starting point for serious research
This outstanding guide to terrorist organizations is both an excellent textbook for students of the Middle East and a great reference for experts in policy, research, or programs on Middle Eastern terrorism. While there have been many books written on Middle Eastern terrorism and its actors, Aaron Mannes's work is by far the best. It is a compact, comprehensive guide on the subject.
This volume is a commendable and timely publication. It provides an impressive source of information that is both thorough and wide-ranging on the rapidly proliferating phenomenon of international terrorism and the organizations that perpetrate it. As a reference guide, it has been thoughtfully compiled making it a valuable tool for professional specialists as well as interesting reading for the general public, so many of whom have had their lives touched by the scourge of global terror.
This will be a valuable addition to the library of all serious students of terrorism.
