Description
Darjeeling is to tea as champagne is to sparkling wine – only leaves harvested in Darjeeling, India earn the name. The area’s unique recipe of soil conditions, altitude, sunshine, and rainfall produce these incomparably fragrant leaves. In 1841, an English civil surgeon named Dr. Campbell was transferred to Darjeeling and became the province’s first superintendent. As you can imagine, the good man craved a proper cup of tea, and so he planted seeds on the slopes near his home, 7,000 feet above sea level. The world is very glad he did.
