Q: I have changed the filter a number of times. Why, after this last change yesterday, does the water taste funny? Like chlorine, possibly? I ran it for five minutes with cold water, as usual.

A: I worked at a water company and they usually add chlorine early in the morning you might want to run your regular water for a few minutes in the am.

A: I've used these PUR filters for 8 yrs.Now dismayed to find sealed foil +all 3 filters covered in white powder, & a second granular substance. Item said made in MEX. Going to NISPIRA direct now.

Q: My filters always turn red after about 25 days, and it certainly isn't filtering over 100 gallons per noted, we only use it for drinking water. What could be the reason for this?

A: Thank you for reaching out about your filter concerns. PUR Faucet Mounts are equipped with an indicator light to help you determine when your filter needs to be replaced. This light will change colors based on how much water has passed through the filter. The life of these filters is, on average, up to 2-3 months/100 gallons. This will also vary based on the quality of the water being filtered. Water with higher amounts of contaminants will result in a shorter filter life. Unreliable Now, Contaminated in Manufacturing
I have bought these for 8 years without a problem. This last time, however, all 3 replacement filters were covered all over in white powder and other granules, foreign to the process of the plastic filters (see photo). Plus, inside the completely sealed foil packaging for each filter was also covered in the white powder/foreign object granules. Because these are filters to ensure purity of water, and safe drinking, and because water is an essential source of health for people, PUR/Kaz should be (and is) held to a higher standard of food safety. On top of that, the sale price at Target.com, online shopping was only $22, but Target.com could not add it to my grocery pickup order. So, I had to separately go into the store to buy this 3-pack of PUR filters; the Target store would not honor the online price of $22, and instead charged me $39 (77% *more* than Target's advertised sale price)! I will return this 3-pack to Target, but want to caution everyone to have a backup plan. I also called Kaz, who is the mfg/distributor of these. They say they will send a prepaid label for you to ship back for an exchange, but due to shipping times, it could be 3 to 4 weeks before you get a replacement. Many of us don't want to wait that long for clean water -- plus, this 3 pack should last about 9 months. Plus, there is no guarantee the next batch won't also be contaminated in manufacturing. In short, I am going to a different brand until I am assured PUR/Kaz improves quality control. There is absolutely no way to know what the white powder, or debris was, and it should have been crystal clear to PUR's workers, and quality control this batch should never have gotten out for sale. (Plus, Target in store, it is shameful to charge 77% more on a tampered food safety product, that you sold online for substantially less).

Doctor Says Use a Water Filter!
You can smell BLEACH when our tap water is running and it gave me a stomach ache every day. My doctor said if there is one thing I can do for my health is DO NOT drink tap water without a filter. Took her advice and bought PUR Plus Filter and no more bleach smell, no more stomach aches, the water is crystal clear, and it tastes delicious and refreshing! Now we never drink water, or cook, without the PUR filter. Excellent product, highly recommend!

Defective cartridge. Cheaper on target website.
Purchased a 3 pk and the first one we grabbed out to replace was covered in the black mineral stuff. Husband washed it off and started the filter process you have to do and it just kept spitting out more of the black powder the whole time. He ended up throwing it away. What a waste of a cartridge and money. They should do better quality control.

Works for me
These work for me. The pressure may be low/sputtery at first but you’re supposed to leave the tap running for several minutes to saturate the filter, then water pressure will increase. I’ve gone through about 5 filter cycles and haven’t had an issue. Hope it continues to work for me I live in LA and can notice a difference in how my stomach feels after drinking from this vs tap. Filters are pretty expensive, ends up being about $10-$15/month when i buy this pack
