[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the Black Bristle Adjutant brush on a recent job. I painted adirondack chairs and kitchen cabinets. I used it to prime the cabinets and prime and top coat the chairs. It held paint extremely well and the finish was smooth with limited brush marks. The 2 1/2 inch brush provided control and the thin handle was comfortable to use. It held up after cleaning and the bristles didn't splay or fall out even after repeated use. The comfort and durability of the Adjutant is second to none and I will continue to use this brush on future jobs.

About 20 years ago, I bought a Purdy 3" camel hair sash brush. I worked so well on polyurethanes that I bought six more. The last brush was laid to rest and I'd like to buy some more. If not available, what would your recommend?

I will start by saying I am not a professional painter. The first time I decided to try using oil based paint ten years ago, I bought a 1-1/2 inch version of this black china bristle brush to do trim work in a paneled room. It was easy and the results looked fantastic. The paint laid down so smooth you would think I sprayed it. When I decided to repaint all the cabinets in my kitchen last year, I needed larger brushes but could not find the black bristle anywhere, so I bought several white china bristle. I was not happy with the results. I could not get the paint to lay down and thin out. I ended up with brush marks due to the paint layer being too thick. After trying various techniques with no luck, I went back to my one black bristle. It was small and it took a long time to cover larger areas, but once again, the results were beautiful. I guess the key is the stiffness. The black bristle is stiffer than the white and allows you to push the paint, thus thinning it, unlike the white which seems to float on top. I'm getting ready to do my living room, which is all paneled and I guarantee I am either going to find more blacks or spend an eternity painting, but I am not going to use white.
