Quaker White Cheddar Gluten Free Large Rice Cakes - 5.5oz

I thought I received a bad batch after buying dozens of these packages over the years. I actually threw them away after eating a few that were so terrible I can’t explain it. I see everyone is complaining about recipe change! So disappointing. This used to be a good alternative snack for me instead of eating an entire bag of pirates booty 🙁

I am quite literally likely the single largest individual customer of white cheddar rice cakes. I buy and eat about 1 pack every 2 days, and have done so for nearly 30 years. I grew up with a taste/sensory disorder resulting in a very sensitive palate and these were one of the first foods I actually enjoyed, and it has remained a staple in my life. I loved the product and have been a brand evangelist among friends and family. The new recipe is a massive downgrade in every single way, and makes the product almost inedible. The new “cheese” flavor is dramatically worse than the prior. I was praying I got a bad batch, but I have now gotten the same taste from packages purchased at many different retailers. Please change the recipe back to the original version. I suspect sales will plummet the longer you continue with this formula. I never thought I’d have to search for a new daily snack to replace rice cakes, but if this change is permanent it seems that may be the reality. Please let me know if there is somewhere I can purchase the original version.

I've enjoyed Quaker's White Cheddar Rice Cakes for my entire life. They have always been my favorite comfort food ... a delicious, healthy snack with a unique flavor. I used to joke that I've probably eaten more of them than anyone else on earth - but seeing the comments here, it's clear I'm not the only one who truly loves them. The updated recipe follows the standard playbook for "improvements" to every junk food: make it saltier and oilier and hope customers don't notice (or don't care) that they're getting charged more for a worse product. This is not what those of us who have bought and loved these for decades want. I will not be buying more unless the old recipe is brought back.

I have been eating these for years and something has changed. The flavor is off. They taste like the cheese went bad. I won’t be buying any more.

This new recipe is horrible! Doesn't taste at all like the previous cakes. And to make matters worse, they're now 60 calories instead of the previous 45 calorie version. Why are you messing with a good thing?

New recipe both tastes worse and screws up the calories count/macros. Now I need to switch to a new brand. What a dumb decision.

The recipient and flavor change is awful. It sucks that the calories have gone up as well for what wasn’t even a good change. Everyone is agreeing Quaker, so why not bring the old ones back?

Extremely shook. These have been my go to comfort food since childhood. I used to joke I would choose a lifetime supply of them (or, specifically, their flavor powder) over lottery money. It was an incredible tangy, cool, light cheesy flavor. Well, they’ve changed it. Idk what I’m going to eat now or what my family will stock in the cupboard for when I visit. If I had to guess, it tastes like some cheese popcorn flavors that use powdered blue cheese as well as other cheeses. No “cool”ness to it, very little tang, more saltiness. The smell is somewhat pungent. Tastes about like any mediocre store brand of cheese popcorn, but without the natural fat that makes those tolerable. And this is a little stinkier and grosser. Actually can’t believe they’ve done this.

The new recipe is not good. The calorie count has gone up. The old rice cakes were my favorite snack and I just bought several packages before I realized they had changed. Now I am stuck with them. I will certainly not buy any more unless the recipe gets changed back. What a disappointment.

Ever was done to the white cheddar rice cakes to add up. More buttery flavor is disgusting. I have always loved these for years and now I don't even want to buy them anymore

I have loved rice cakes since I was a kid. The White Cheddar flavor has always been my favorite. The change from 45 calories to 60 didn’t matter to me until I found out in the process the flavor changed. It’s disgusting now. I’m devastated to have lost a staple comfort food that I’ve loved for more than a decade at this point. I sadly won’t be buying anymore unless the flavor changes back.

These used to be my go to snack but they must’ve changed the recipe recently because they taste weird now :( unfortunately I will not be repurchasing unless they change it back

I used to LOVE the white cheddar flavor. I literally ate them every single day. The new formulation is disgusting. They are mostly artificial butter flavor and do not even come close to white cheddar. I don't understand and I am disappointed and sad.

The new flavor is awful. Genuinely awful. Confusingly awful. Impressively awful. I might describe the flavor as a blend of spoiled butter, acetone, and cheddar gone moldy. This has been my favorite snack for as long as I can remember, and I cannot even finish the sleeve I've purchased. Why?

These no longer have 45 calories per cake they now have 60. Why mess with success?

Please switch back to the old recipe. They aren't even close to good. I used to eat so many of these. They now taste rotten.

New rice cake recipe is completely disgusting. The new flavor is a mixture of a bad oil taste and lacks any white cheddar flavor. I have been eating these rice cakes for over 20 years and am so dissapointed that changes were made to a product that was already perfection. Please change it back.

I have been buying this flavor consistently for at least a year. With the last pack I bought around March 2025, I noticed some of the cakes tasted okay, but some had a 'stronger' offputting cheese flavor. I thought maybe it just had more of the flavoring on it. But after opening the second set of cakes in the pack, I was overwhelmed by the smell. It smelled like a pungent, mold-heavy cheese, like they'd gone bad. I also noticed that there was more brown coloring on this pack, so at this point I can't tell if this is legitimately a new flavor or if the most recent production of these cakes legitimately have mold/rot issues. I threw them out and was worried people around my desk might be able to smell it in the trash even with the pack taped shut. Buyer beware!
