Description

About the Book

The Sinner/Saint Devotional: Remembering Your Baptism is a 40-day devotional reflecting on the gift of baptism. Organized into five weeks of eight days each, this devotional delves into the comfort and promises gifted in baptism. Jesus' resurrection ushered in a new day, the eighth day. Through baptism, we have been brought into this eighth day of resurrection. We are saved in Holy Baptism and placed into the ark of Christ. God is at work through water and his Word. He promises to always be with us, his baptized sinner/saints, with his forgiveness and mercy. This devotional is anchored in watery Scripture accounts such as creation, the flood, Jesus' baptism, the Psalms, and more, reflecting on our baptismal life in Christ.

Book Synopsis

The act of creation took place over six days, culminating in God's rest from his work on the seventh day. Each week, therefore, serves as a reminder of God's work of creation. The opening chapters of Genesis set the stage for our pattern of seven-day weeks.

In Remembering Your Baptism: A 40-Day Devotional, each week is made up of eight days. The eighth day is the day of our Lord's resurrection. It is the new day of everlasting rest. In baptism, God is at work through water and his Word delivering these gifts of life, forgiveness, and salvation.

Anchored in watery Scripture accounts, this devotional dives into the comfort and promises gifted in baptism through forty unique devotions. Through devotions on creation, the flood, Jesus' baptism, the Psalms, and more, you will be reminded of the work of Jesus given to you through the gift of Holy Baptism.

Each devotion includes an opening Scripture passage, devotion, closing prayer, and suggested Scripture reading for further reflection. Each devotion explores the work of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in baptism. Following the forty devotions is an appendix of baptismal resources which includes prayers and baptismal questions with answers.

Review Quotes

"Remembering Your Baptism is an incredibly edifying read that not only teaches but comforts. Over and over again, Kathryn finds Christ within His sacrament. Baptism is simply Jesus for sinners. In a market oversaturated with devotionals that demand we do more for Jesus, for 40 days we hear instead the gospel. Jesus does all the work, and so Baptism becomes a place where Christ's work is for you. The 8-day week layout brilliantly encourages the reader not to mark time by what has to be done but bound to God's promise of new creation which is already ours in Baptism." - Harrison Goodman, Content Executive, Higher Things

"Kathryn Morales has given the church another fresh devotional to use. This time she works with baptism. The Holy Scriptures are dripping wet. So is this devotional and so is your life, if you pay attention. Morales explores the biblical allusions to baptism and then applies these promises to our lives. This is what sets apart Morales' devotionals: they are about the promise of Christ's grace delivered to sinners. Always about the promise!" - Rev. Dr. Michael Berg, Professor of Theology, Wisconsin Lutheran College

"Kathryn Morales has given us a wonderful reminder of the ever-present gift of Holy Baptism in these daily devotions. Centered on the truth of Holy Scripture and what it says about Christ-for-us in water and Word, this book is a fantastic addition to the reader's Lenten discipline, and can be revisited in years to come as a comfort and assurance that our Lord is always with us." - Pr. Duane Bamsch, Grace Lutheran Church, Grass Valley, CA, Higher Things for Lutheran Youth

"Martin Luther once said that 'every Christian has enough in Baptism to learn and to practice all his life.' Kathy's devotional on "Remembering Your Baptism" helps with this task by taking us on a deep dive into the ocean of God's Word where we see the wonderful works and promises of God that all come together in Holy Baptism for God's people. Her book will help you 'learn and practice' what it means to be baptized as you read the wonderful Christ-centered, Scripture-soaked devotions contained in these pages!" - Pastor Mark Buetow, Zion Lutheran Church and School, McHenry, Illinois

"Reading and spiritually digesting Remembering Your Baptism is an unforgettable faith-filled journey. Author Kathryn Morales really knows how to turn a phrase as she gives delightful biblical insights into the foundational reality of baptism. Remembering Your Baptism devotionally energizes the reader in appreciating how repentance is a return to one's baptism and true identity as a forgiven child of God. This book is the remedy for the temptation of outgrowing and leaving behind one's baptism!" - Joel Pless, Ph.D., Professor of Theology, Wisconsin Lutheran College
