A: These are traditional refried beans, 99% sure that the lard is animal based. Would be pork lard most likely. They make 2 non-lard options, Vegetarian and a Fat-free.

Did not like the smell or taste of this brand. Has an odd flavor. My husband didn’t mind it but I didn’t give him much. I threw out the rest since I just wanted to try it. Now I’m wondering what I should with the rest of the cans I bought earlier this year cuz of COVID.

These beans are the most like my Granny's and I love them! They are lightly spiced and are extra delicious if you add grated jack cheese (Granny was generous with the cheese). Rosarita does have a vegetarian version of these beans, but the traditional use of a little bit of lard (think bacon!) is my preference.

These are tasty authentic traditional refrieds. I've been buying them for at least 30 years. We always keep a couple cans in the cupboard for fast chalupas or burritos. By definition Traditional Refried Beans contain LARD. That's how they are made. Rosaritas has 2 options without lard, Fat Free or Vegetarian. So it's kinda stupid to leave a one star review and make this product look like it's not any good, when in fact it's EXACTLY what it says it is in big letters on the can, TRADITIONAL refried beans. If you don't want lard buy the other versions. And if you like authentic traditional refrieds get these. They are really good.

These refried beans are not vegetarian. Shoppers should be aware that lard (animal fat) is an ingredient.
