The handle's red portion is soft rubber, while only the grey is more rigid, and not that hard either. If you cut something thicker like cardboard, the blades can handle it but you will definitely risk breaking the handle, which happened to me, compared to other plastic-handled scissors, and metal-handled, of course. A shame since we usually trust a brand like Scotch, but this is best avoided.

These are good scissors, but the either the edge or the metal itself has machining imperfections so they dont have a fully smooth operation, the edges bind ever so slightly as the scissors are cutting so it has a 'predictable roughness' as they are being operated. Not as sharp as my old durasharps, but nice to have a new general-purpose scissor at a good price.

I liked these enough to buy a 2nd pair. However the screw that keeps the blades together keeps backing out after a few cuts to where the scissors are not usable.

I bought 3 pair of these--had to return two of them!! They were so hard to open they weren't worth the effort. I kept the 3rd pair only because I was in the middle of a project and couldn't spend any more time getting scissors. I WILL NEVER ORDER SCOTCH SCISSORS AGAIN AFTER GOING THRU THE HASSLE OF RETURNING SCISSORS THAT DID NOT WORK!!! CAN'T WAIT TO TOSS THIS 3RD PAIR!!!
