Super Mild

3 out of 5 stars
Megan - 15 days ago, Verified purchaser
This is definitely the mildest kimchi I’ve ever had, and I ended up mixing in some chili garlic paste to up the spice level. That being said, it is super fermented, so it will promote lots of good gut bacteria. Unfortunately this is the easiest to access/only kimchi available in my current area. I’m unsure if I’ll buy and spice up again, or try my hand at making my own instead.

Just be careful opening. Open over a sink. Juice will gush out and make a mess. Otherwise tastes good.

This kimchi is so perfect. Nice fermentation, morr natural pieces than other brands, a littlw spice. I could eat the jar in one sitting if I didn't show some restraint.

I saw “grandma’s recipe” and “authentic” on the jar and I was sold. But then I was betrayed. -3 stars for flavor and lack thereof. One star for ingredients I could actually read. One star for texture. Would NOT repurchase.

Good alternative if you can't make it to Asian market

First off, I bought it in store, not online. I judge the texture based on what I see. There are some reviews that say it's not so crunchy or slimy. Mine was fairly crunchy and not slimy at all. But also I had the chance to look at the jar before buying. Flavor wise it's a bit more mild, but I prefer it that way. I did add some salt and that helped bring the flavor out tremendously. (If it's too bland, try adding a bit of salt.) I love that it's actively fermenting in the jar. It brings a really nice texture and flavor to the kimchi. If you leave it in the fridge longer, more of the flavor comes out. I'm not Korean, but I've had my fair share of kimchi and *personally* I like this brand. Is it authentic kimchi? Probably not. Does it taste good to *me*? Yes. Is it worth the price for the small amount? For convenience, yes. If you're looking to buy in larger quantities to save money, make a trip to your local Asian market.

this is some DRY kimchi. the taste is there but the first bite and the after taste doesn’t really give kimchi. just go to an asian grocery mart and get your kimchi there. those taste a lot better and more authentic.

It has virtually no flavor and isn’t even spicy. I have a low tolerance to spice and I’m telling you this has nothing. It tastes in general almost like nothing. Incredibly disappointing, especially for the price.

I really like the flavor. I'm gluten free and allergic to fish, so this is great for me. It's not very spicy or salty as other vegan kimchi I've tried. I'm surprised at the bad reviews....but I've never had authentic kimchi due to my allergies. My 1yr old enjoys eating it with me too. I started eating it for the health benefits. I don't even like cabbage, but this stuff is yummy imo!

I actually really like this Kimchi. I've been buying it for a while. They have a spicier flavor I like as well. I've been getting more into Korean food because I like Korean music & want to learn more about the culture. It's been a fun journey & kimchi feels like a staple of it. I love eating it on the side & even mixed in other foods. It can be a bit hard to find vegan options in Korean food because a lot of food includes fish sauce & such so to find a good tasting vegan version I was incredibly happy!

As a Korean person, yeah, it's bland. The product's vegan aspirations mean that it lacks a depth of flavor you'd get from jeotgal or fish sauce, though I do think the other spices/aromatics are pretty decent. It's very slightly sugary, which was unexpected. I was also surprised that there's no white radish- that's the second most important ingredient in basically any recipe ever, and the loss of its flavor-holding power and the radish's own subtle flavor just take this kimchi another step away from an "authentic" taste. I think the carrots were supposed to be their replacement, but they're not substantial enough and not really the same texture. Texture wise, it's fine. It's obviously not going to have the crunch of fresh kimchi, but it retains enough to be enjoyable. Quality overall seemed good to me. If you've never had kimchi before, this product is as generally appealling as kimchi's going to get and it could be a safe first choice. Whatever I thought about the flavor didn't stop me from eating the entire jar in one sitting.

I liked this. I’m not a kimchi connoisseur, and I don’t love a lot of spice. After some recent blood work, I decided to make some changes to my diet, and discovered kimchi would be a great addition. I found this to be just spicy enough for me, and was exactly what I was looking for!

I’m surprised at the number of negative reviews this has. This is one of my favorite brands of kimchi. It’s vegan so it’s not going to taste 100% authentic, but I think it’s fantastic. Spicy and crunchy and garlicky, all the things I look for in kimchi.
