Description
Alliums are in the same family as garlic, onions, chives, and shallots. This makes gardeners wonder if they should include them in their ornamental gardening plans, as it conjures up images of supermarket produce. But because good garden designs are often made up of different shapes, Alliums rounded blooms make for high drama and interest in the garden. The Allium group gets more popular annually, from over 300 species to choose. They amaze everyone, and few plants create this kind of wow in the garden. We will be adding many new varieties shortly.
Allium sphaerocephalon is a bulbous perennial that is ornamentally grown for its early summer bloom of rose-purple to pink flower heads. This plant is native throughout Europe to the Caucusus, Iran and northern Africa. Cylindrical, hollow, grassy, gray-green leaves to 14" long form a foliage clump in spring. In late spring, sturdy slender flowering stems rise topped with egg-shaped flower heads. Each flower head is a tight, dense, clover-like cluster of tiny florets that emerge deep green but mature to rose-purple. Flower heads resemble the flower heads of some clovers. Flowers lack fragrance.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received these bulbs quickly. They were well packaged and included an envelope and card with a photo of what the blooming flowers would look like. I thought that was a really nice touch. Almost gift-able bulbs! I planted these right away, but won't get action for a while. I hope they add a lovely touch to my flower garden.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This package came on a very hot texas day but was still in great shape. The packaging was nice and kept them protected. The card inside the box was helpful as well. They were easy to plant but too soon to tell how they will do in the ground. Fingers crossed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am normally awful with plants so I prefer seeds/bulbs because my favorite part is seeing the little sprout come out of the ground one morning. Well I planted these and watered and now I’m the proud owner of a few little sprouts! I can’t wait til they grow to full size and flower. They were really easy to get started and came with care instructions for watering and light which helped a lot.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These bulbs are so easy to plant! I was a little intimidated because I’ve never planted bulbs before but it was super easy to get them planted. I love that they grow fast. If I have no problem planting these, then anyone can plant them!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We put these around the porch in the front yard. They were easy to plant. Dug several holes about 5-6 inches down placed the bulb. Covered it with dirt and mulch. My late husbands favorite color was purple and I can’t wait for these to bloom in honor of him. I just know they are going to be beautiful.

I immediately went to the website to find out more. The website is informational. The bulbs were all in great shape, and I will be planting them this weekend. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These bulbs are really interesting and I have never grown anything like this before. The bed that I have planted them in has looked very bland and boring in the past, and so I am hoping that these blooms that belong to the same family as onions and chives will bring a bit of drama and interest to the back yard. I followed the instructions provided and the planting process took me about 15 minutes total. I am really excited to experience the anticipated rose-purple blooms after they have gone through what seems to be a totally engrossing process from grassy-like foliage to a green, oval, clover-like shape that slowly transforms to rose-purple. It is my understanding that more varieties will be made available in the future, and I cannot wait to incorporate them into my display.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The bulbs arrived quickly and were packaged safe and securely. A pretty informational card was enclosed. I followed the very easy instructions to plant these bulbs. I am so excited for these flowers to bloom in the late spring to summer. These are pollinator beneficial blooms and will attract butterflies! They require full sun exposure.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The packaging allowed air to flow thru it as it should. There was a nice large large picture that shows what the flowers will look like after they bloom. The bulbs themselves appeared to be in very good condition and ready for planting.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love that these come in an almost not see through bag but air holes so I can easily store it for the winter. They will stay safely in my garage until the spring. Plenty of bulbs which is awesome both for variety but also in case some of the bulbs are eaten by squirrels or don’t make it to be a full flower. Bulbs look healthy and fresh. Can’t wait to see how they grow in the spring!
