Description

Alliums are in the same family as garlic, onions, chives, and shallots. This makes gardeners wonder if they should include them in their ornamental gardening plans, as it conjures up images of supermarket produce. But because good garden designs are often made up of different shapes, Alliums rounded blooms make for high drama and interest in the garden. The Allium group gets more popular annually, from over 300 species to choose. They amaze everyone, and few plants create this kind of wow in the garden. We will be adding many new varieties shortly.
Allium karataviense is a compact, bulbous perennial that is ornamentally grown for both its foliage and its flowers. It is native to the Karatau Mountains (hence the specific epithet) in Kazakhstan. Broad-elliptic, spreading, gray-green, basal leaves appear in pairs. Leaves are sometimes mottled with purple. In late spring, a short but sturdy flowering stem rises from the center of each leaf pair. Each flowering stem is topped with a large spherical flower head containing tiny, star-shaped, dull pink florets. Flowers bloom in early summer. Flowers have a mild fragrance.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I don't have much of a green thumb. These were easy to plant and take care of. During thr blooming season, I watered them daily. After the blooms had died, they don't require as much water. I planted them in a bed that had all new rich soil in it in the full sun. I have had problems keeping things alive in this bed, but these seemed to thrive. They were very pretty to look at. I recommend these to anyone who needs something pretty for a full sun bed

Looking For Pop and Interest ?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I copied a picture to show how beautiful these flowers are, as I've only gotten the bulbs to plant after seeing how spectacular they looked in my friends garden this year. These bulbs come from the same family as garlic, onions, chives, and shallots. This flower is a compact, ornamental perennial bulb (size 12 cm/14 cm), with beautiful foliage and flowers. The leaves are gray green, a short sturdy flowering stem rises from the center of each leaf pair, with a flowering stem emerging with a large spherical flower head containing tiny, star-shaped florets in late spring and bloom in early summer, it's mature high and width is 6 in. This plant / flower is deer and rodent resistant, has a mild onion-like aroma when cut or bruised. Plant in fall, in sunny locations where the soil drains well as per my friend the bulbs will rot in wet areas. The Allium family requires almost no maintenance, with the one exception bulbs should be dug up when flowering decreases, divided and replanted. Better yet shared with friends!! If your looking for pop and interest in the garden I highly recommend these beauties.
