I have been using this primer for years since its release and no other primer has yet strayed me from it! Its finish is mattifying, lasts me about 8 hours before any oil peeks through my makeup. It is unscented. My only gripe is the packaging makes it hard to get what is left when the product is low. But I make a way haha!

I'm 77 but still have oily skin. Smashbox Photo Finish Oil and Shine Control has been wonderful over the years, but I can no longer find it. I tried Photo Finish Control Mattifying primer with Salicylic Acid and was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. It doesn't control oil AT ALL, plus it causes my makeup to gather in my wrinkles.

Good quality. Coverage is amazing and durability as well. Only problem for me, as I do have a oily skin, was that let my skin to shine. But overall is a good product, very hydrating.

I had a brain lapse and bought this by mistake – meant to buy the NYX brand color correcting primer. $12 vs. $42… This junk is horrible! I want to throw it away but I paid so much for it, I’ll suffer until it’s gone! It doesn’t blend easily! It does not rub in. It does not provide full coverage – looks patchy – and this is after my normal skincare routine has fully dried.
The BEST Primer!

This is my holy grail ride or die primer I always reach for. By using this one, I get the added hydration I do not need from an extra moisturizer prior to adding a primer. But I also get the results of a primer and moisturizer in one! It has no scent and it a gel-like texture that sinks into the skin quickly. It's the only one I use these days and I have normal to dry skin and works beautifully all year long. I have zero pilling with this as well with various foundations and skin tints.

I would give this a 4 star. The only reason why I don't think it deserves 5 is because the purple one is way better for my skin. I own a lot of primera and always go back to Smashbox.

Its a really good product super hydrating sets nicely ,really liquid and milky smooth but for the price I had to get the mini and it's great but I can get this same quality from my elf primers maybe even better for half the price And some times it peels so it's good not great 😊

Using urban decay setting powder this foundation stays on all day and is the first one to not completely disappear in my dry skin. I will say that without that setting powder, my problem areas seem to "suck up" the makeup but this has been the best makeup in 10 years!
It's great!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved that thus created a matte base for my makeup and helped keep my oil at bay throughout the day.

Bought this instead of the discontinued Oil & Shine Control Primer. It works, but not as good and doesn't last nearly as long as the discontinued version. Please bring back the old one! :(

I have combo skin that leans dry sometimes and oily sometimes. I used this primer on the dryer days and it didn't really hydrate that well. I wasn't blown away by it. Also, I didn't see any improvements in makeup application or longevity, which is a must for me to give 5 stars to a primer. This one was just ok to me and I likely wouldn't repurchase.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use primers a lot, this one became my fav one super fast. Why? Flawless looking skin, I swear it makes my skin look poreless, plus hydration. It wears super nice under foundation or you can simply top it with powder, and it will look great too! I will definitely order it again, and I've already bought one for my friend!
HORRIBLE REPLACEMENT FOR OIL AND SHINE CONTROL

I am a long-time Smashbox primer user so I wanted to give this new primer a chance. I was using the old Oil and Shine control and loved it so much. Devastated when discontinued. So I tried the new one and it is not even close to being as good as the old one. The old primer made my skin so smooth, blurred and no shine. This one still leaves a shine and does not feel good on my skin- somehow still tacky feeling. Not sure why they did not keep the old one around for those of us that prefer it. This new one is a big miss and I will be looking for a new brand unfortunately unless Smashbox would bring back the old Oil and Shine control.

I received a free sample of this product from Smashbox and SoPost. This Smashbox Photo Finish Control Mattifying Primer is an oil-controlling primer that delivers a matte look while defending skin and perfecting makeup infused with a Silkscreen Complex, Witch Hazel, Salicylic Acid, and Zinc. It goes on very smooth, with a slight silicone feel to it… I found that this primer does keep my skin mostly matte for at least 6 hours, which is a nice change of pace from my usual oil slick look within 3 hours. But the first time I used this primer, it made my makeup look awful, but I wonder if my skincare routine had something to do with it because ever since I changed my moisturizer, this primer works really nicely. So let it be known that this primer doesn't play well with all products… That being said, even with the ideal skincare routine, this primer doesn't always apply evenly… It can be really patchy with powder foundation for some reason. Overall, this is a good primer for oily skin with liquid foundation, but it's fairly finicky if your skincare and makeup routine switches up like mine does, so keep that in mind.

I like this better then their original. My makeup does pill some which might be my moisturizer, I need to try it without. After wearing it all day it did keep me from getting oily which I love. And, my makeup still looked good. Went on easy and made a super smooth canvas. I have some bigger/deeper pores it did not blur all the way. It didn't clog my pores or cause breakouts. Overall I would definitely recommend for those with oily skin.
