Q: What does upscaling mean
A: Hi Paul, thanks for reaching out about the Sony 1080p Upscaling DVD Player - Black (DVPSR510H). Upscaling changes the resolution of the displayed video signal. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7 am-11 pm CST.
submitted byRena - 5 months agoTarget expert supportA: Hi Paul, thanks for your inquiry. Upscaling means to convert one set of values to a higher set of values. For example, HDTV sets upconvert broadcast TV (480i) and DVDs (480i or 480p) to the highest format the set supports (720p, 1080i or 1080p). The feature reads the data on a standard DVD at 480P and maximizes the video resolution to best fit your HDMI compatible TV. This allows you to enjoy the best in video performance while delivering digital video and audio over one simple cable. Some Sony DVD players and recorders have this function built in. Hope this helps. Erin
