About this item
Description
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.
For Harry, this is that story at last.
Before losing his mother, twelve-year-old Prince Harry was known as the carefree one, the happy-go-lucky Spare to the more serious Heir. Grief changed everything. He struggled at school, struggled with anger, with loneliness—and, because he blamed the press for his mother’s death, he struggled to accept life in the spotlight.
At twenty-one, he joined the British Army. The discipline gave him structure, and two combat tours made him a hero at home. But he soon felt more lost than ever, suffering from post-traumatic stress and prone to crippling panic attacks. Above all, he couldn’t find true love.
Then he met Meghan. The world was swept away by the couple’s cinematic romance and rejoiced in their fairy-tale wedding. But from the beginning, Harry and Meghan were preyed upon by the press, subjected to waves of abuse, racism, and lies. Watching his wife suffer, their safety and mental health at risk, Harry saw no other way to prevent the tragedy of history repeating itself but to flee his mother country. Over the centuries, leaving the Royal Family was an act few had dared. The last to try, in fact, had been his mother. . . .
For the first time, Prince Harry tells his own story, chronicling his journey with raw, unflinching honesty. A landmark publication, Spare is full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.
About the Author:
Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, is a husband, father, humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist. He resides in Santa Barbara, California, with his family and three dogs.

Definitely makes no sense to be a little over 400 pages. The book was over-hyped and to be frank a bit boring. I should’ve just waited until the book came to the library

I think Harry respectfully told his story and his mother would be proud. Thank goodness he had a loving and nurturing mother in his life.

A courageous, vulnerable piece exploring mental illness, wars, the crushing burden of a fame he never wanted. The audiobook with the emotions conveyed through the voice of this broken man is even better.

If you MUST read it, borrow it from the library. This is a book from a lost and disturbed man who needs help, but is looking in all the wrong places.

This book was well written and although I knew a lot of the facts in it, reading it all from Prince Harry’s perspective was eye-opening. I felt his pain and frustration through out the book. He spent his whole life being attacked and lied about by the press. Prince Harry reminds me of his mother and is very much like her in every way. I cried a few times. He wanted happiness and a purpose. His love for his family is wonderful. He has a good sense of humor and is a warm, caring human being. I am glad he is finally free to have the life he dreamed of. I wish him well and I hope he wins his case against the evil press! Back in the day they all would have been tarred and feathered! I highly recommend reading the book.

It’s ok book, it was interesting until he got married to Meg. I think she influenced him more to get out of his family just because she couldn’t take it. They both knew what they are signing for. And then, they are complaining about his family cutting them off. Like Chris Rock said it’s in-laws issues, everyone has it.
Good read

Really appreciated how open he was about his experiences, even if it was a bit tmi at times. There was more about war than I thought there would be, but he did serve for a long time.
It's good!

Good book, lots of tidbits about the Royal Family. Very easy read. Definitely interesting to learn about the life Harry has led and is leading. If you’re against H&M, you’ll be going in rolling your eyes, otherwise, it is eye opening.
Avoid. Save your time.

Great book! Well written and well stated facts. I lived through his mom’s high time, then public roasting of Camilla, Kate and latest him and Meghan. I remember most of his media portrayals. Him being only a year older than me i grew up watching it all. I found most of it to be accurate and honestly how i would feel if it happened to me. I didn’t find he spoke much bad about his dad or brother, imho he portrayed his father pretty nice. All royal gossip and trends aside, the book is interesting as he had such a unique life growing up, with very interesting experiences. Went to both North and South pole for example! Amazing!! Book is also very well written!
Boring, don't waste your time.
