Q: Do you have to bleach your hair to do this? If so is the bleach permanent or bad for your hair? If my hair is darker that the medium blonde will it still turn out okay?

submitted by Run - 5 years ago
  • A: Hello Run, Yes, you will have to bleach your hair to a pale blond. If you have medium blonde hair you will need to bleach it about three more level higher to achieve best results. If you leave you hair at medium blond the result will be different than on the box.

Q: How long does the dye last? How many washes until it starts to fade?

submitted by Anabel - 5 years ago
  • A: Our dyes are Semi-permanents dyes, which is identified on the box, with that said the fade out time period /process varies from person to person based on hair texture, density and porosity. Industry standard wise Semi-permanents last 4-6 weeks and also varies depending on how often the hair is washed. The more the hair is washed the faster/more will fade, using a clarifying shampoo can also help. You can still have color left in the hair after the 30 washes or 4-6 weeks due to the high pigment load and depending on how long the color was processed. Hope that helps.

Q: Is the dye it permanent?

submitted by Lover - 5 years ago
  • A: Splat hair color is not permanent color. Splat color is semi-permanent.

I love this color and I got it all with out having to bleach my hair. Midnight Indigo is everything I want in a deep dark blue hair color. The consistency of the product was very nice, however I did make sure to shake the bottle prior to application. The color can be a bit messy, but in my opinion, all at home hair coloring is messy. The conditioner! Omg the conditioner that comes with the kit is amazing. Only wish it had a tad bit more product, but phenomenal nonetheless.

First of all, it smells great. I enjoyed the process. I didn't bleach my hair before using it, I was aiming for a very subtle dark purple that was only really noticeable in the sunlight. This product achieved that for me. It did stain my skin and scalp pretty bad, but I was able to get rid of that fairly easily. I dyed it about a year ago and its faded, but my hair is still purple in the sunlight, which I like even though it was meant to be semi-temporary. I wouldn't recommend using this though if you dye and bleach your hair often. I bleached a strip of my hair and the dye lingered. Overall, I'll be using this again.

My daughter wanted green highlights in her hair so I bought the hair dye thinking it would work. When it dried there was no color and she took a white shirt, rubbed it on her hair, and the dye came out, and it came out as blue not green. It also made her hair feel like chalk. DONT BUY THIS!

Easy to use and will last a while based on past experience yet the blue looks teal and a the teal green. Might be an issue with my hair as it's not the first time I experience a similar issue however. The bleach was also a bit weird, very strong smell and weirdly thick, but that might have been partially user error.

Very small amount of dye, barely covered my son’s medium-short hair. And washed right out (we left it in 45+ minutes) with water, no soap. Looks like it will fade to an almost grey color in a few washings. We don’t bleach, but he has dirty blond hair and other dyes show up great. Not doing this one again!

A bit too watery compared to the other Midnight Color dyes.

I love Splat Midnight edition colors especially not having to bleach your hair. The only issue I had with the indigo blue was that it was so watery that without properly mixing it with another color, it would have made a disaster mess for a first time user. I have a license from Paul Mitchell and I'm excellent at coloring and creating beautiful ombré styles with Splat.

I had black hair, i used one bottle of bleach and I have thick long hair, it covered the whole thing, didnt do any damage and ive been dying my hair for years. It came out a beautiful bright red. My hair dye still wont come out even i dyed it 3 months ago, i wash my hair with hot water every other day and ive been waiting for it to fade away because i am planning to dye it a different color when it fades more but its still so bright. which is truley amazing.

All the other splat colors ive used worked well, but for some reason tantalizing teal was so uneven for me and was not nearly as intense as promised. I wanted teal roots and my hair was bleached x2 btw and put a generous amount of dye. Disappointed tbh

It's my first time dyeing my hair by myself. A month ago, I went to the hair salon to dye my hair red, but I was disappointed because it wasn't the color I wanted. But thanks to Splat it looks a lot better and the hair color I wanted. I get a lot of compliments, calling me a doll. :) It's not hard to use, but it easily stains skin, such as the ears, forehead, and neck. Beware of that; other than that, I like it.

I am naturally strawberry blonde/auburn but I have thin platinum blonde money pieces and highlights throughout. I typically try to keep them rose gold/pink but have been struggling to find the right product that gives me the tone & vibrancy I am craving. A friend told me about Splat & I will never be the same. The dye is so easy to apply, I left it on for about two hours to ensure a super rich color & wow. I am so impressed. Will never use another product, this is totally it. Hopefully the color lasts after many washes but either way I am in love.

1 reply from Splat Hair Color team - 4 months ago
We're sorry to hear you weren't satisfied with our product. Splat is a semi-permanent color which means it's not oxidative. So going into a swimming pool with chlorine will make the color fade and or wash out. In the future we recommend wearing a swimming cap to protect the hair color.

I bought this product at my local store. According to the box, my hair (after bleaching) was supposed to be a beautiful medium lavender, slightly darker than on the box. My hair is currently a mix of magenta and pink, nothing even close to the advertised color. The skin on my arms, neck, ears, back, and chest is dyed a dark purple that no amount of scrubbing can remove. I would not recommend this product to anyone, I would give it zero stars if I could.

I used this hair dye last night and the color was pretty nice but this literally will not wash out and it stains everything you own i swear this would not come out of my shower and was staining my bed even after i rinsed and shampooed right after as listed and it won't come out of my scalp and i don't know how to fix this. i can't lay down or even brush my hair or anything because it will just stain everything. Also this literally gave me so much irritation on my skin which has NEVER happened to me with any other hair dye so i think i won't be using this again

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate our customer's input. Here are some helpful tips that our Splat users find very helpful STAINS: Stains on the bathtub: - Spray Scrubbing Bubbles, or Lysol disinfecting spray that contains hydrogen peroxide. Let the spray sit on the stains for 10 minutes, scrub for 2 minutes, rinse, and repeat the process as needed. - You can also scrub the stains with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and it will help lift the stains. - Dampen the surface and sprinkle Ajax or Comet cleaner. Lightly scrub with a moist sponge to make a paste and scrub till the stains start to lift. Rinse and repeat as needed. - Clorox Foamer, Scrubbing Bubbles or Lysol with Hydrogen. Spray the cleaner on the stains and let sit for 10-20 minutes. Scrub, rinse, and repeat as needed. - https://youtu.be/lJwxMqF3SNI FACE/SKIN: Stains on your face or skin: - Use a non-gel toothpaste and a damp washcloth, and scrub the stains for about 5 minutes, rinse and repeat as needed. - Mix together baking soda and dish soap, using a damp washcloth, scrub the stains for 5 minutes, rinses and repeat as needed. - Use baby wipes on your face, hands, neck, ears. Rub the stains till the wipe no longer has any moisture in it. - For your hands, use an exfoliating scrub to wash your hands and the stains will lift. - Use hairspray to help remove the stains on skin. - Hand sanitizer with a cotton ball - Facial astringent with a cotton ball - Zep Cherry Bomb Industrial Hand Cleaner (customer's fave) - Apply shave cream to the areas of the skin that are stained then with a damp cloth(not completely wet)rub off the shave cream. Scalp: Stains on your scalp * Mix some sugar with coconut oil, rub on stained areas and then shampoo. In order to stop all the bleeding and staining we recommend that you do a really good rinse with cooler water, rinse the hair until the water runs clear, shampoo the hair really good making sure all excess color is being shampooed out, rinse again with cooler water until the water runs clear, apply conditioner allowing it to set for a few minutes then do the last final rinse with cooler water until the water runs clear. Splat is a semi-permanent color / direct dye and these types of dyes just coat the hair meaning they sit on the hair shaft and don't really penetrate unless the hair is very porous.

I've used splat for a long time but since the pandemic I've become really disappointed. I'm not sure if the formula has changed but every time I use an ombré it never sticks to my hair. All the other single dyes are fine but not the ombre's. Today I tried one last time with this one as opposed to the pink and purple thinking maybe it was just the colours. Nope. The dye stuck to my bangs and the rest looks like a washed out mess with a bunch of blonde poking through. So I kind of feel like I damaged my hair with this product for nothing.
