Q: Is this too small for my 5 year old-she’s about 42” tall
submitted by Shanson - 3 years ago
A: The 12 Strider Sport is designed for the "general" age range of 18 months - 5 years. Instead of total height, to determine the best fit for your little rider you will want to know their inseam measurement. This model fits an inseam range of 12" - 20" and weighs 6.7 lbs. The Strider 14x is the next size up and is the only Strider that transitions from balance bike to pedal bike. This model fits an inseam range of 16" - 23".
submitted byStrider Bikes - 3 years ago
A: I would reccomend the next size up the Strider 14x this balance bike has an additonal add-on pedal kits that can be purchased separatley which will create the riders first pedal bike. It fits kiddos from Ages 3 – 7 years old with an Inseam between: 40-58 cm (16-23 in.) Rider Height: Approx. 95-125 cm (37-49 in.) Maximum Rider Weight: 36 kg (80 lbs.)

Q: Does this bike come with training wheels?
submitted by Guarino13 - 5 years ago
A: No. It's designed to teach the child how to BALANCE on two wheels without the added complexity of pedals to push forward. Kids can put their feet down at any time, but the point is to "walk / run" forward and lift their feet to balance for short periods until they've mastered the ability.
submitted byHawks18 - 5 years ago
A: We don't ever suggest using training wheels on a STRIDER, Training wheels are an out-dated form of learning to ride a bike. They only create a false sense of security.....Our bikes break down riding into the simplest of forms starting with the foundation of Balance, control, confidence and steering. Kiddos learn to glide and steer at their own pace and almost seamlessly transition to pedals.

Q: Will this attach to the strider rocking base?
submitted by Cristina P - 4 years ago
A: YES!!! All 12 Models will fit the rocking base. If you have more questions you can email customer service at Customerservice@striderbikes.com

Q: how do you brake on this bike if going too fast?
submitted by Cynthia - 4 years ago
A: Cynthia,
Kiddos use their feet to stop, so good shoes are important when Striding. If they are getting to the skill level of big hills and fast gliding please check out the Strider 14x it has a coaster brake. Let us know if you have any other questions

Q: What is the age range for this model?
submitted by Jacqui - 5 years ago
A: Thanks for the question - Age is just a general range - the Strider Sport 12 fits kiddos 18 MONTHS - 5 YEARS but the best way to measure a rider for a bike is the inseam. The 12 in Strider fits a range of inseam lengths (30-51 cm [12-20 in.]). Ann H. Strider Customer Service.

Q: Does this bike have a kickstand?
submitted by mstevenson - 5 years ago
A: Thanks for your question, the 12 inch bikes do not have a Kickstand, we don't want anything to get in the way of the riders feet and ankles. There is a plastic floor stand for storing the bike.

Brand expert
Q: Does it come with pedals to attach at later time
submitted by Jana t - 5 years ago
A: Janet, No the 12 inch Striders do not have an add-on pedal option. The only Strider that has an add-on pedal kit is the 14x. Ann - Customer Service Team.

Q: What makes the sport different than the classic?
submitted by TZ - 5 years ago
A: The Sport has quite a few "upgrades" It comes with 2 easy to adjust clamps on both the seat and handle bars. It has both a short and tall seat post so the Sport accommodates a rider with an inseam from 12-19 inches. It also has a handle bar pad and the newest version includes a molded performance footrest.

Q: Can pedals be added later on for the kids
submitted by Barbara - 5 years ago
A: The Strider 12 Sport Balance bike is for our youngest riders and will not have the option to add pedals. Once the kiddo is ready, the next step in the progression is the Strider 14x, that is the perfect transition bike for the older toddlers 3.5-7 years old.

Q: Do you have a strider model that has air filled tires?
submitted by Megan - 6 years ago
A: Hello, Jessica from Strider here. Our standard models come with our EVA Polymer foam tires, but there are air-filled tires that are available as an accessory on the official Strider page. Thank you!
We’ve bought 2 of these over the years and they are so amazing to help kiddos learn balance. They ride them inside and outside every day. Our 4 year old was able to pick up riding a pedal bike with in 10 minutes after using her strider bike for the previous 1 1/2 years.

Hard plastic tires - 3 months ago, Verified purchaser
This is a good little bike with adjustable handle bars and seat. The problem is, it has hard plastic tires so they are slippery and don't have good tread. The price is also high. I returned this bike and found one with good rubber tires for only five dollars more.

Our son is 2 years old and in the 70th percentile for height, yet even with the seat on the lowest setting, his feet only just reach the ground. He struggles to sit fully down on the seat while peddling with his feet. He has to move his body forward off the seat to peddle more easily. Those aren't even our biggest complaints. Our biggest complaint is the bolts that stick out on the sides of the bike (see photo). Talk about dangerous and painful!!! It's gotten to the point where my very fearless son (who can literally fall several feet, scrape his head and knees open and still say, "Ow! Okay, I go play again…") doesn't trust this balance bike and hates staying on it longer than a few seconds. I am sure it's because he is done getting those huge bolts jammed into his body. The designer on this is either childless and/or careless, and I struggle to understand all these rave reviews.

This is the third bike we have purchased from this company. I absolutely love them for our kids. They were in our opinion easy to assemble. I recommend going with the sport as it has a broader age range compared to the classic. Our sons have a different option but all of these bikes have held up well and taught our kids confidence when riding their bikes. Definitely worth the money!

My son loves his new yellow Strider 12 Sport bike! It was easy to assemble and easy for my son to learn how to ride it. Now he comes home every day asking if he can get his yellow helmet and yellow bike. He's only been riding for a few weeks, but is already getting faster and coasting longer. Thanks for an amazing product!

I wish there was some way to keep the seat and wheel straight when adjusting the height. It lets you turn them leading to a misaligned wheel or seat.

My 3 year old loves this bike, he zooms around and feels like such a big kid. We got this one for my second son who is about 18 months and has been non-stop fixated on “bi-icles!” The only thing I would change would be to make the seat out of a different material because when my younger one was playing with the wheels he bent down and took a big bite out of the seat ( second kids, am I right?) we were able to glue the chunk of foam back in, but still a bummer it was so easily ripped apart.

My five youngest children all started off with Strider bikes. The youngest one received hers at two years old and within weeks she was trailing behind her older siblings. Every one of the kids went directly from a Strider to a pedal bike at about four years old with no training wheels in sight. They all continued to ride their Strider for a few more years because they’re able to easily go over rough terrain unlike most kid’s pedal bikes. Striders are also awesome because they’re so lightweight you can easily throw them into your vehicle and take them along whenever to go to the park or trails. I would recommend Striders to every parent of young children.

Easily my two-year-old’s favorite birthday gift! He rides it every day and took to it quickly. It’s a good weight, feels very well made, and has adjustable handlebars and seat. It’s easy for him to get on, and the footrest will definitely come in handy as he becomes more proficient. Love the padded handlebar as well. This bike should last us a long time!
