I bought the pro series and the picture clarity is amazing but the sensor leaves a lot to be desired. It will pick up a car going past on the road 30m away but if i walk out to the bin 10m away it doesn’t pick me up. If i walk towards the camera it gets me about 6-8m away. Then it will trigger at a branch moving 30m away. Very hit and miss

Hello, We appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear you’re impressed with the picture clarity. Motion detection can sometimes be affected by angle, sensitivity settings, and environmental factors. We recommend adjusting the motion sensitivity and enabling PIR + Person Detection to help focus on people rather than distant movement. If you need further assistance optimizing your setup, please reach out to tech@swann.com, and we’ll be happy to help. Your feedback is important to us. LV - Swann Team

The cameras are quality definition but that's about all this system has going for it. Hardware instillation is difficult and cumbersome with no thought to setup design. Screws are in difficult to access places on the cameras and the screws themselves are cheap S.steel. The instruction manuals are basic with limited information. The software set up is nothing better. No wifi connection and can only be hard wired to a TV or Monitor which is ridiculous for today. Logging in is cumbersome with a cheap mouse and on screen keyboard to click away letter by letter logins, passwords and set up. Changing the password requires a download and is not convenient at all. The app is not synced and connected to the device and requires it's own password. The how to videos are all over the place with no order to help with instillation. A very complicated system and is more designed for professionals as there is too much unique identifiers and processes for the home user. It feels like a system from the 90's that hasn't updated with technological advances.

These systems seems to lose connection all the time. Being that they are cat wired it's sad. The app is also very slow and is Terrible. I also have wize set-up for in home use and it works way better. Wize is wireless net and the app is amazing. Swann needs to step up the game. Cameras are good if and when all are working right.

Hello KFisher, Thank you for reaching out to us and sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your most recent experience with our 8 Camera 8 Channel 4K Ultra HD NVR Security System. The camera has 3 different settings for streaming quality; low, medium, and high. If you are having problems streaming you can lower the settings and test to see if it improves. Note that lowering the stream settings does not affect the quality of the recordings. If you have very fast upload speeds you can set your camera to high, but if your upload speed is not that good then we recommend you use medium or low for the streaming setting. For the best experience, we would recommend that both devices be connected to a high-speed network. If your mobile device is not meeting the bandwidth requirements the resolution may be lower than desired or will not connect at all. Please reach out to a member of our technical support team and provide your Internet upload and download speeds. This will help us troubleshoot your device. I purchased this security system couple of weeks ago and installed it at my house. Installation set up is very easy. I was expecting to get a decent system with high standard of accessories but I was disappointed with the standard of low quality data cables provided with the system. And cameras have nerrow angle view, I was expecting to get wide angle view this price tag. The voice system is also very noisy especially in there is wind blowing one can hardly hear any other noise. My overall rating is average on this system.

I purchased a couple of months ago and it was the best thing ever. It’s awesome being able to see what the dogs are barking at, the noises anywhere around the house all we have to do is look at the tv to see what the noise is about. I love the motion alerts when I’m not home too. Open the app and check. I wish I did this years ago.
Works straight out of the box

Have had this system installed for just over two weeks - and whilst it worked great out of the box did need to tweak individual camera settings for optimal performance. Living on a busy street did find motion and no PIR/IR setting beneficial for the front cameras and face detection works best for those cameras where the person is looking as directly to the camera as possible - so best used in narrow areas where (at some point) they have to look directly forward into the camera. As for heat-detection this seems to be a bit off for my install (again, could be due to external factors) - but prefer an "alert over nothing" than no alert at all. Initially was receiving a trillion alerts to my phone (which gets old very fast); so be aware you will need to tweak and tweak and then tweak some more to get each camera set up to perform at its optimal. This includes both physical tweaks (i.e. move camera up/down/right/left etc.) and software configuration changes. Am in the IT industry and have seen many security cameras / systems - this one is pretty feature-packed for the price-point. The configuration screens aren't too bad either; everything is rather simple and logical, though did refer to the instruction booklet many times (well done on that too!). Have fun with it - don't make too many adjustments at once and see what works best for your installation. Be patient & use logic. Most of all, have fun with it! :)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Swann, 4 Camera 8 Channel 4K Ultra HD NVR Security System is a very good security system. We followed the included instructons and had it running the first try. The night vision in color in pretty neat. It has a lot of capabilities, so we are still on a learning curve, but very happy so far. 2 TB hard drive is big enough to last for a good while.

Purchased this system hoping to significantly reduce false alarms because it has PIR, but it is not. Leaves blown by wind, Sun comes out of the cloud would cause alarms. On foggy or rainy nights, water droplets would cause endless alarms (change to color mode instead of night-vision would reduce the alarms but darker video). It also throws false human/vehicle alarms (no human in field of view and my car in the driveway was stationary). Can only send videos to Dropbox on two cameras, pictures only for other camera. Also, basic analytics features such as PID, LCD, etc. are not available in this newer model. If I knew it I would purchase an older model. 4K videos are great and clear.

Hello Tone, Thank you for reaching out to us and sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your most recent experience with our 4 Camera 8 Channel 4K Ultra HD NVR Security System. PIR sensors work optimally when the camera is mounted around looking down somewhat and the subject of detection passes across their front. The more the object must "cross" the front of the camera the better the detection reliability. When placing your camera try to avoid situations where the subject would move straight toward the camera if possible. You may need to experiment with the sensitivity settings in the app and camera placement to get the ideal mix of detection. You can add a mask to areas that are likely to trigger an alert as well as other features. Compatible cameras can be added to this kit with the features you are looking for. First off, I have to say I love this system! Secondly, instructions and support could use some help, but it could be my patience since I'm a director in IT. Please make sure you update the firmware, and the auto-update does not find the latest version. You need to download it from the site, put in on thumb drive, and install it that way. Another issue is you NEED to use a CAT 6 cable from your Comcast modem to the NVR system. The simple cable caused me so many problems with live view, playback, and phone app. Swann should include a network cable to make sure everyone uses CAT 6, not an old CAT 5e. I was getting constant errors since I didn't have enough bandwidth. 100 MBPS vs. 1000MBPS, yes, new cable fixed that. I still have an issue with playback and two videos showing up on occasion, and hopefully, the wonderful helpdesk can guide me through that. Level 1 support drives me crazy.
So far do good

This is my second Swann NVR system for my house. My first system lasted about 8 years until the NVR stopped working. All the cameras were working fine, but I decided to upgrade the system. I'm glad I did and this system is a big improvement. Having the lights on the cameras is great and I have them coming on when anyone walks near them at night. Plus I can turn them on with the app which is cool! They also have sirens that can come on two and 2 way audio. The cameras have really good microphones and I can hear everything clearly with my phone. I had 3mp in my last system and this is an upgrade and really clear. Definitely can see an improvement when I look at the cameras with my phone. Took a little getting use to the new app but it works fine most of the time. Sometimes I just have to reopen the app for the cameras to work. But, they seem to come right on quickly when I do that. Plus I really like the new connections for the Cat 5 wire to the cameras. My cameras are outside in the weather, and I had to wrap tape around the connections with my last system. These connections are sealed tight and work well. Big improvement! Overall been very pleased with the system so far and couldn't have a house without a camera system like this. So, I didn't get cheap and wanted their best for Residential.

Overall I am impressed by camera quality, the image quality, and the abundance of features in the Version 8 software. I think the analytics work well once you get the setup correctly, especially the more advanced ones. I definitely would buy it again and I am happy with my purchase. I think these are very competitive with other security systems when you take everything into account, especially for the value (4K, spotlights, analytics, PIR, the customization for notifications, recording etc. etc. ). I have been running for about two or three weeks now and it appears to be reliable and now that I have my analytics set up well there are very few false positives (a bird crossing at the same time a car drives by and causes the PIR to go off) and no false negatives (someone there and it not picking them up); I have tried myself, had my wife and daughter try many times to verify. I also suggest you do the same to get it dialed in. I only have seven camera's up and I can see 360 degrees around the house with no issues or blind spots. Still deciding where or if I want to put up the eight camera. Now some cons (the reason this isn't 5/5) I think the PIR and motion combo does cut down on my nuisance alarms but it definitely is not flawless depending ambient conditions. Shiny objects such as bbq grills and cars (things people might steal) reflect enough passive infrared from the sun to trick it. Especially when things warm up in the late morning. So I had to go to analytics for my push notifications; you still can get bombarded with false positives otherwise. And I think my biggest complaint is the bugginess/reliability of the phone app and the NVR software. I had to do a manual update of my NVR to get all the analytics up to date, it kept telling me I was all up to date. Which for sure wasn't true and this is where a lot of new options and features come in (like PIR and motion). Unfortunately this resulted in other problems since I had already been setting up somethings using version 7 and had to wipe it clean after upgrading due to some features not working correctly. This of course is told in hindsight and all told maybe 4-5 manhours down the toilet between wrong versions of the firmware and the multiple setups, frustration that the scheduling and other features didn't appear to work at all on version 8 and then my time with the chat support (which actually was a good experience). The phone app(s), which I don't understand why there is more than one option, also have a lot of features but I don't think it has opened and stayed open reliably since I downloaded it. It constantly crashes on start up. And I don't think it matters what wire security system (Swann, Lorex, etc.) you get but it takes about an hour to two per camera to install them properly and get all the fished and installed properly (bracing with 2x4s, hole drilling, filling gaps, aligning the image, fishing the Ethernet cable through walls, which it was nice it was only one cable, etc.) I am not a certified electrician but my time seemed in line with other reviews. So I would plan on a full weekend maybe two depending on how complicated your install is. I would also recommend spending some time planning out where you want all the cameras and the box itself. Hopefully this helps Swann and others make some informed decisions.

I bought the 4k NVR 3 days ago and only just got around to installing it. I was replacing an older HD NVR Swann product. Which was handy because all I had to do was replace the camera's on to the existing cat5 cables, brilliant. switched the box, followed all the instruction's and was up and running in about 3-4 hours. The only problem I had, was with my email account. Every time I tried testing it I got an error, wrong user/password.Turns out my Gmail account kept blocking it, so had to adjust the settings. The microphone works great, I shall be checking out the spot lights later. Very clear picture on my devices especially the Ultra HD device. I know it's early days but over all I'm very happy.
Wow, what a difference.

Long story short. I purchased and installed a 4 camera 4K DVR surveillance system (from ANOTHER manufacturer). The camera image was excellent, BUT the fan noise from the DVR 24/7 drove us mad (I am so glad I did not install the DVR in the bedroom!). After numerous trips to the retailer, who despite their best efforts could not resolve the noise issue – they measured the fan noise at 70dB at the fan head! I uninstalled and returned the system and purchased a Swann SWNVK-885804. Wow, what a difference. No noise, great video and snaps, documentation that makes sense, heaps of videos on Youtube and way more features.
