Both chairs have a mottled finish on the wood from haphazard staining, but it isn't too bad if you aren't expecting perfection. But one bolt hole was full of glue, and another hole for a wood screw was drilled "backwards." I was able to buy a "tap & drill" set (6mm diameter, 1.0mm threads) for $6 at Lowes and I drilled out and re-threaded the glued bolt hole. I was also able to re-drill the "backwards" (upside down) screw hole. It has only been two days since we started using the new chairs in our dining room so too early to tell if the design is strong enough to hold up. There are no wood plugs for the bolt holes so it will be easy to tighten the bolts if necessary in the future. Since I was able to fix the problems, I will probably buy another pair of chairs if they hold up after a few weeks of use.
