Build your own awesome, wearable mechanical hand that you operate with your own fingers.
No motors, no batteries — just the power of air pressure, water, and your own hands!
Hydraulic pistons enable the mechanical fingers to open and close and grip objects with enough force to lift them. Every finger joint can be adjusted to different angles for precision movement.
Three configurations: right hand, left hand, and claw-like; adjustable to fit virtually any human hand.
Learn how pneumatic and hydraulic systems are used in industrial robots such as automobile components.
Description
Explore hydraulics, pneumatics, and robotics with your very own GIANT hydraulic hand! Using over 200 plastic pieces and piston tubes that you fill with water, build an awesome mechanical hand that uses hydraulic power to simulate the movements of the human hand--no motors or electricity required! Once assembled, your cyborg hand slips onto your own hand like a glove, with mechanical fingers that you operate with your own fingers and that can grip objects with enough force to lift them. Challenge yourself to pick up and hold a variety of items like bottles, pencils, small items--anything within reach! The hand can be configured in three ways--left hand, right hand, and claw-like, with the thumb in the center--and can be adjusted to fit virtually all hand sizes. A 40-page, full-color manual guides model building and experimentation and provides engaging scientific information about how pneumatic and hydraulic systems are used in industrial robots to assist with a variety of tasks in our modern world.

Q: Can magnets damage this item?
submitted by ___ ___ - 5 years ago
A: Thank you for your question. There are no electronic components in this product, so magnets will not cause damage. You can learn more about the product here: https://www.thamesandkosmos.com/manuals/full/620501_Mega_Cyborg_Hand_Manual.pdf
The product offers a unique building experience that engages children in STEM learning through hands-on assembly. While many guests appreciate the educational value and the fun of creating a working cyborg hand, several express frustration with the complexity and quality of the parts. Clear instructions and the potential for bonding time during assembly are highlighted, making it a worthwhile project for families willing to invest time and effort.

Think again abiut this purchase
Difficult to build. It sat for a few days because my son was very discouraged. When I helped I totally understood his feelings of frustration. Screws didn’t screw in correctly after straightening and straightening again. We finished the build but he was under impressed with all the work he had put into it.

Regret this purchase.
This was so disappointing and frustrating for our family. My very capable 9 year old had this high on his wishlist, and I absolutely regret getting it. We ended up throwing it away after 3 days of 2 adults and my son working on it for hours, and it never working.

Enjoying the cybord hand
We did it! If you follow the directions and take breaks as suggested, it can be done. My husband and I took turns with our 8 year old to put it together. My son loves it! All parts are working well!

Not a good toy for kids
Too heavy for the tiny screws that are supposed to hold it together. Broke right away. Did not have a true grip to really do anything with it other than open and close the hands before it broke from just falling onto the table a few inches. Very frail. Just bummed out. Bought it as a Christmas gift and took all that time to build it for it to not last very long.

My 9 year old did it all by himself over the course of 4 days. I only helped start a couple screws he struggled with and with the oil part. Otherwise, all him. So apparently he is gifted based on other reviews! Ha! Only giving 3 stars because a piece going into a tube broke after two days of playing. We are exchanging for a new one, so hopefully this was a fluke.

Worthless junk
Hard to put together, hydraulics are hard to with and piston levers are constantly popping out and are very hard to put back in. Was the only present my kids wanted from Santa and after hours of putting it together is essentially worthless junk.

Don't do it!
Way too hard for a 10 year old, whom is in gifted and talented classes. He's top of his fifth grade class, too. There is no way a 7 year old could do this. Dad stepped in to help and even he is frustrated. Do yourself and the recipient a favor and buy something else.

Bad. Waste of money
No way is this for a 7-10yr old. It took me, a 53yr old with a masters degree, 4hrs to get this together. Plus it’s a piece of junk. The rings where your fingers go pup off too easily. The super small screws were tough to screw in, my 9yr old could not get this done alone.

My kid loves it. It took 6 hours to build but if you follow the clear instructions and don’t make the mistake of cutting off required nubs some in the reviews thought were burrs, then it works perfectly. I did all the fingers at the same time. Only complaint is that it does not have a strong grip hold so don’t think you can crush a soda can with it. Overall, a good toy and STEM exercise for the kid.
