About the Book
Use this practical guide to design and implement an HR operating model that will support and develop the workforce and drive business performance.Book Synopsis
The traditional Ulrich HR operating model is no longer fit for purpose but what needs to change? How do people professionals build a high-impact HR department that adds business value? This book has the answer.
The HR Operating Model outlines the traditional approaches to designing HR structures, practices and process and explains why these are no longer appropriate in today's business environment. This book then provides a new HR operating model which can be used to ensure that the HR function develops and supports a high-performing workforce and aligns with the organization's strategic objectives. Showcasing the four core elements of people experience, data and analytics, agility and product management and technology integration, this book provides everything that senior people professionals need to build a successful people department that adds measurable business value. Including real-world examples from Santander, Jaguar Land Rover, Barnardo's, Collinson Group, Novartis and Natwest, this book shows how organizations are benefitting from this approach to their HR operating model. The book is full of practical advice, tips, tools and frameworks as well as interviews from experts in the people profession which allow all senior HR professionals from public or private sector companies of any size to benefit from this approach too. Written by a leading voice in the industry who has been recognized five times as one of the Most Influential HR Thinkers by HR Magazine, this book is essential reading for people professionals who want to add business value and align HR activity with the organization's strategic objectives.Review Quotes
"Perry reframes the HR function as a designer of systems that generate energy - the fuel for people, performance, and progress. This book helped me see that energy is always a system's outcome, and that HR 3.0 shows us how to design for the kind of energy that sustains people and drives value."-- "Chris Metcalfe, Founder, Red Oak Agency Ltd"
"
The HR Operating Model is a significant guide to HR Professionals, and their C suite collaborators, enabling them to co-build the people system for the next decade.
Perry Timms is both professionally and soulfully diligent as he guides the reader through the evolutions of HR models, aiming at presenting a systems thinking model for the modern, futures-thinking HR professional. In parallel, he highlights the identity shift in HR towards shaping the ecosystem rather than solving problems; towards forward thinking rather than responding. "Using the future to make decisions today" is a mantra amongst futurists and futures thinkers, and this is just what Perry Timms does: Using the ideas, trends, movements and disruptions that currently shape the business world to imagine scenarios and futures for the HR function. From that, his HR 3.0 Operating Model emerges, as an enabler for the futures-ready organization."-- "Erik Korsvik Østergaard, futurist, author and leadership advisor""
I see this book as a catalyst for progression with the introduction of a modernized HR operating model.
HR 3.0, rooted in people science, with a human-centred approach, encourages the concept of Futures Thinking. Perry takes us on a journey through the history of the workplace and HR's role in how our work environments have evolved, through to the present day and beyond, while exploring the HR operating models that have arrived in the last couple of decades. HR 3.0 is here to help us reimagine and reengineer HR by putting in place an optimized operating model that guides businesses successfully into the future. Introducing new roles such as the HR Product Manager, taking its inspiration from Agile working principles and putting a spotlight on evidence-based practice by taking us from basic HR metrics to predictive people analytics. This book is a call to action; it is time for us to think differently. Whether you are someone who is currently operating in a more traditional HR space or already a progressive people professional who is ambitiously carving out new ways of working, you will glean all the inspiration you need, through Perry's work along with a plethora of recommended books and resources to delve deeper into the science."-- "Nebel Crowhurst, Chief People Officer, Reward Gateway""
