It promises beauty but steals life instead. Will the ghosts of Barlowe Theater entomb them all?

Barlowe Theater stole the life of Greta Mercy's eldest brother during its construction. Now in 1915, the completed theater appears every bit as deadly. When Greta's younger brother goes missing after breaking into the building, Greta engages the assistance of a local police officer to help her unveil the already ghostly secrets of the theater. But when help comes from an unlikely source, Greta decides that to save her family she must uncover the evil that haunts the theater and put its threat to rest.

Decades later, Kit Boyd's best friend vanishes during a ghost walk at the Barlowe Theater, and old stories of mysterious disappearances and ghoulish happenings are revived. Then television ghost-hunting host and skeptic Evan Fisher joins Kit in the quest to identify the truth behind the theater's history. Kit reluctantly agrees to work with him in hopes of finding her missing friend. As the theater's curse unravels Kit's life, she is determined to put an end to the evil that has marked the theater and their hometown for the last century.

Spellbinding Split-Time Story

4 out of 5 stars

The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater is another spell-binding read from author Jaime Jo Wright. I was excited to be given a copy through Library Thing. It is a split-time story with mystery and edge-of-the-seat suspense that lures the reader in immediately and doesn't let up. Readers are caught up and compelled by the lives of the characters and their stories. Wright has permeated the story with mystery, drama, and emotional tension as well as some intense action. I liked how the mysteries of the Barlowe Theater are woven into the present story of the contemporary characters. This is a book that readers who love a great suspense book will not want to miss. I read a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

Spine-tingling

This was the perfect book to read over an overcast, chilly, fall weekend. This dual timeline story has plenty of not-easily-explained-away ghostly sightings and sounds, and tales of missing people, both in the past and present. Greta Mercy was a single woman of the working class doing her best to care for her orphaned brothers in 1915. Circumstance after circumstance seem to be stacking up against her, and most of them lead back to the owner of the Barlowe Theater, the hub of most of the unexplained apparitions. Kit Boyd struggled with having trust and faith in humans, an issue rooted in her feelings of abandonment by her birth parents. Now her best friend is missing, and even though Kit believes Madison to be innocent of any wrong doing, she struggles with wondering about the possibility that her best friend has also abandoned her. As Jaime Jo Wright leads readers along the path of solving these mysteries, she allows them to enjoy shivers running up their spines while readying them to accept the truths that are to be revealed. As usual, Jaime Jo Wright has provided hours of reading pleasure with a very satisfying ending, and I am very grateful to have received a complimentary copy of The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater from Bethany House via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own. I hope others will enjoy this spine tingling tale as much as I did.

Perfect October Read!

This perfect-to-read-in-October dual timeline explores moving forward despite negative past experiences and how the devastation of dishonesty affects relationships. It also brings awareness to the adoption/abandonment struggles some people experience even when they’re adopted as infants. (Be sure to read the author’s note at the end!) πŽπœππ¨π›πžπ« πŸπŸ—πŸπŸ“ After Greta Mercy experiences much loss, the townsfolk of Kipper’s Grove, Wisconsin think she is losing her mind. However, Greta knows she’s seen and heard disturbing things in Barlowe Theater. When her younger brother breaks into the theater and turns up missing, she’ll do anything to find him and uncover the building’s secrets. πŽπœππ¨π›πžπ« 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 πƒπšπ² The spookiness of Barlowe Theater is revived when Kit Boyd’s best friend disappears during a filming of an episode of π‘·π’”π’šπ’„π’‰π’Šπ’„ 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π‘Ίπ’Œπ’†π’‘π’•π’Šπ’„. Had some hunches in both the 1915 and present day timelines. Some were correct, but there were plenty of surprises too! Loved discovering the mystery of the goings-on at Barlowe Theater, and slow, sweet romances are my favorite! Besides one little incident, this book didn’t seem as creepy as some of Jaime's others, so I was able to read it at night. Liked the message that even though trials are inevitable, they can sometimes bring people together, and healing is certainly possible even after heartache. I received a complimentary paperback from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Masterfully written

It is another eerie, secret-filled, masterfully written dual time novel from Jaime Jo Wright. The two timelines are seamlessly melded together yet the main characters, as well as the secondary ones, in each timeline are uniquely memorable. In this story, we are transported to Kipper's Grove, WI, in 1915 when the recently built Barlowe Theater in town threatens all that Greta has left. In present time Kipper's Grove, Kit is emotionally and physically haunted by her best friend's disappearance, sabotage at workplace, and menacing bodily threats. How the disappearance of Greta's brother and Kit's circumstances tie together is absolutely mind-blowing. Twists and turns and surprises along the way will have you hanging on for an adventure you won't forget. Though wounded by tragedy and sting of poverty, Greta was quite lovable with her fiercely loyal and determined spirit. Oscar and Eleanor were great side kicks as Greta went searching for her brother. Kit, adopted as an infant, had her own battle with abandonment to face, in addition to battling confusing and heartbreaking incidents. Evan was a logical, level-headed person to lean on and I really enjoyed watching their friendship bloom. With intricate plot, well-developed characters, and wonderful reminders about faith, The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater will thoroughly captivate you as only a Jaime Jo Wright book can. I received a compliment copy courtesy of Bethany House Publishers via Interviews and Reviews and LibraryThing and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
