Book Synopsis

Timeless Wisdom Meets Revolutionary Vision in Epic Political Thriller

What would an ideal world actually look like? Can humanity move beyond endless conflict? Is there a god, and what is its nature? The Third Phase grapples with these eternal questions, reconciling historical polemics from Plato to Nietzsche. Drawing from classical philosophy's most influential work on justice, this modern allegory offers both inspiration and roadmap.

From Olympic champion to world leader, Carlos Smith's extraordinary journey spans eight decades of personal, political, and spiritual transformation. When a missionary's son becomes the most famous athlete on Earth, he discovers his true calling: answering civilization's most urgent question--how do we build a just society?

Fans of Brave New World, Cloud Atlas, and The Ministry for the Future will be captivated by this sweeping saga. Blending the ancient philosophical wisdom of Plato's Republic with the political intrigue of Orwell's 1984, Adams crafts a pragmatic vision of humanity's potential--a direct answer to Nietzschean nihilism.

Through Carlos's "Core Team"--brilliant strategists battling tyranny--we witness True Democracy's birth across Palestine, Latin America, China, and Africa. But political revolution demands spiritual awakening. As Carlos confronts corrupt cartels, authoritarian regimes, and entrenched power, he must choose: can love conquer fear? Can wisdom defeat nihilism?

Echoing Churchill, Mandela, and Gandhi, Carlos bridges divided cultures, proving transformation--both personal and civilizational--is possible.

The Third Phase shows us the world we could build, if we dare.

Review Quotes

"In an age when many politicians have never heard of Plato (as distinguished from Play Doh--the toy), Adams demonstrates the continuing relevance of classic Greek thinkers to contemporary world issues. This clever and intriguing novel will make you think, laugh and cry. It may also cause you to change your mind. It may even get some politicians to read Plato's allegory of the cave. The old philosopher would be proud."

--Alan Dershowitz

"The Third Phase is a great story, full of human drama, political intrigue, and real spiritual depth. But it's more than a thriller. It asks the questions that matter: What kind of world are we leaving behind? Do we still have the courage to do what's right? At a time when too many people have given up on one another, this is a book that challenges us, moves us, and points us toward hope."

--Governor John Kasich

"In The Third Phase, John Adams reminds us of one of the greatest gifts of a story: its ability to awaken our imagination, to help us see beyond what is and catch a glimpse of what could be. With honesty, insight, and remarkable storytelling, Adams invites us to see what may have been right in front of us all along, but through fresh eyes. You'll find yourself drawn deeply into the lives of the characters, challenged by their journey, inspired by their courage, and awakened to a hope that is not reserved for some distant future. The Third Phase reminds us that transformation is possible, redemption is near, and the better story being written can begin today."

--Steve Carter, author and Lead Pastor of Christ Church, Oak Brook, IL

"The Third Phase by John C. Adams is a captivating thriller that explores global politics, international sports, the nature of power, and the importance of family. It's an engrossing read that combines nonstop action with thought-provoking ideas on effective statecraft."

--Bill Worden, Associate Professor of Spanish at the University of Alabama and Spanish Professor for The Great Courses

"A daring philosophical tour de force, The Third Phase reimagines Plato's Republic with electrifying originality. Through bold, entertaining storytelling and fearless inquiry, it confronts the perennial tensions between justice, power, and the moral and spiritual architecture of belief. The result is a visionary meditation and derivation on governance, global affairs, education, and the human spirit - urgent, reflective, numinous, and impossible to put down."

--Dimitrios Katsantonis, Esq., Writer/Film Producer, Member of the Bar of England & Wales, the Middle Temple & the New York Bar, Advisor on Islamic Finance.
