This book was so hard to put down. Jack and Aubrey had great chemistry and a history that tied them together. Having not seen each other for several years has caused them both to change, but when you had a bond like theirs, it’s not that easy to forget. Aubrey being in the middle of a tangled web brings out all the protective instincts in Jack. Little does he know, she is more than capable of looking out for herself. Past feelings have a way of resurfacing whether you want them to or not, and Jack finds himself at a crossroads. Can their friendship turn into something more? Will they survive long enough to find out? I enjoyed seeing two capable characters working together to find a traitor to our country. Aubrey had a difficult past, and certain situations force her to confront parts of it. The web of lies and deceit couldn’t get much bigger, and it will take everything they have to untangle it. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Mystery mixed with a little Romance. Harris kept my interest the whole time, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I received a copy of this book from Revell publishing and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Traitor's Pawn by Lisa Harris is a face paced fiction novel that is an enjoyable read! Aubrey Grey is on an estate with her father like figure, a former senator. Just as Aubrey and the former Senator start to enjoy the morning, the Senator is shot and next thing you know Aubrey is kidnapped. FBI Agent Jack Shannon arrives to investigate the case. This is no longer a shooting investigation, but has now turned into a case involving shared intel with foreign countries. Whatever happened between childhood best friends, Aubrey and Jack? When Aubrey started dating Jack's brother their relationship changed. Can it be salvaged after all these year? I did enjoy reading The Traitor's Pawn by Lisa Harris. This book was rich in characters, kept you on the edge of your seat, and was overall great fiction. The main character of Aubrey explored past hurts caused by her father and needed to look at forgiveness. I enjoyed the themes in the book. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review, which I was happy to do.

Hooked on page one!

Traitor's Pawn was action-packed from beginning to end. Lisa Harris is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors and I am never disappointed by her books. I was hooked on page one when someone shoots a close friend of Aubrey's and kidnaps her. The story never slowed down from there. This was an exciting edge of your seat read that included espionage, kidnapping, wonderful characters, and the right amount of romance. As a reader, I continued to question who could be trusted and who was really behind all of this and how did they always seem a step ahead. Just when I thought I had it figured out, I was surprised again. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell on behalf of the author. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

EDGE OF YOUR SEAT INTRIGUE!

I confess I am one of those readers that wants (needs) to be hooked with the first sentence of a book. When I read the first sentence of Lisa Harris’ THE TRAITOR’S PAWN, I knew I was in for a treat! “Watch your back . . . this isn’t over.” Her opening sentence segues into a first Chapter that prepares readers for a plot full of edge of your seat intrigue! FBI Agent Jack Shannon is solely focused on finding the man who has been selling encrypted government secrets to the Chinese through online birding chat rooms. However, when he learns a former Senator has been shot and the woman with him has been kidnapped, he feels compelled to join in the investigation. Especially when he discovered the missing woman was someone he was once in love with, newly promoted Detective Aubrey Grayson. Harris’ characters are genuine and relatable. You find yourself drawn to them and wanting to know more about them, their pasts and where their futures may lead. Her setting is the marshes of Texas and she describes them beautifully. The plot is intriguing and will keep you reading this book from start to finish in one sitting! Overall an excellent Romantic Suspense book! I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Revell and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

TRACKING A TRAITOR

“I just … I need you to forgive me, Aubrey,” the policewoman is told in Lisa Harris’s novel, The Traitor’s Pawn. ~ What ~ This three-hundred-and-thirty-three-page paperback targets those who enjoy crime suspense with Christian undertones and light romance. Containing no profanity, the topics of kidnapping, murder, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The book ends with the first chapter of the writer’s next novel, author’s biography, and advertisements for other Revell books. Set in Corpus Christi, Texas, Jack and Aubrey used to be best friends as teenagers, but their relationship abruptly ended, with one fearful of divulging true feelings. When FBI agent Jack happens to be in the area hunting down an American involved in a Chinese spy ring, Aubrey, a policewoman, is kidnapped. As their paths cross unexpectedly, they race to catch the traitor before more are injured or killed. ~ Why ~ This is a fast read that packs plenty of action and tension between two past friends who must work together to solve who is selling government secrets. I like the sensitivity of Jack and how he deals with his past decisions. Aubrey’s character shows how trusting God helps her deal with heartache, disappointments, and life-threatening situations. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may not like the calling on God for His protection. Others may not care for a story of a woman dealing with forgiveness of those she loves. The reader may feel frustrated that Jack appeared unaware of all the turmoil in Aubrey’s family life if they were once close friends. ~ Wish ~ While I liked the relationship between the two protagonists and how they both were scared to move forward, I found the persistent interruptions too obvious every time they tried to discuss the future. I prefer all pronouns of God to be capitalized for reverence. ~ Want ~ If you are into spy stories involving the FBI and police, this is a quick read that caters to those who like re-establishing relationships, forgiveness, and trusting in God. Thanks to Revell Reads for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

Action with Great Characters

I would describe this latest book by Lisa Harris as more action rather than romantic suspense. Yes, there is an element of suspense and a little romance, but mostly it’s action driven. The characters, Jack Shannon and Aubrey Grayson, are likeable and well developed. Jack is an FBI agent and Aubrey a detective with Houston PD, so both characters are trying to solve the crime/mystery using crime investigation methods. I’d say for me, this book’s suspense factor was lower than previous books I’ve read by Harris. There is lots of action, but I never really felt the main characters were in grave danger. You’ll understand this when you finish the book. And, I would have enjoyed a bit more romance. Nevertheless, there were moments of tension, and you don’t really know what is happening until the end of the book, which is good. There is a definite Christian element running through the book, but it’s not preachy. It’s a clean, faith-based book.

Suspenseful and fast-paced

Lisa Harris never fails to bring an action-packed, adrenaline-filled romantic suspense to her readers. The Traitor's Pawn takes two estranged childhood best friends Jack and Aubrey and puts them smack in the middle of treason, espionage, and betrayal. Jack is the fierce protector of FBI agent and Aubrey is a police detective and they join forces to untangle a web of threats, murders, and stolen secrets. The plot moves at a brisk pace and it has plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing at the identity of the real villain. If you enjoy romantic suspense, you will enjoy this book and the author's writing style. I received a copy of the book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Lisa Harris has done it again another amazing book. I always think that her last book was the best and she couldn't top it, but she always does! Lisa never disappoints and Traitor's Pawn was no different. Gripping from start to finish. I didn't want to put the book down. If you are looking for a fast paced suspense novel do yourself a favor and grab this one soon.

Aubrey Grayson and Jack Shannon grew up together in Houston, Tx. They considered one another best friends so when they both ended up back home to work on a case, they found themselves with feelings they both thought had been buried so that they could move on with their lives. Aubrey had come back to spend time with the family that taken her in as a child when things were rough. Former Senator McKenna had been the father that she never had, since Charles Ramsey had left her Mom and her when she was little. All she had ever wanted was to be able to some day ask him why. Little did she know that she was going to get her chance. Her father had been selling secrets to both China & Russia and she is about to realize just where she stands in her father's heart and mind. Jack was back in the area because the FBI had been searching for a traitor. This person had been selling secrets to China & Russia and he was determined to apprehend this him. But he has no clue that his case is about to collide with the local detective, Aubrey Grayson and how this case is going to take a turn that he could never predict. While Aubrey and Jack were best friends back then, she had briefly dated Adam, Jack's brother. Neither Jack nor Aubrey never wanted to tell the other how they really felt because they did not want to ruin the friendship, so when Jack could not take it anymore he left the area so that Aubrey could have a chance with his brother. That relationship did not last long and they lost their friendship along the way as well. While searching for the traitor Jack and Aubrey rekindle their friendship and they need to see if there is more there for them. This was a really good story that I did not want to see end. Thank you Ms. Harris for allowing to participate. I look forward to the next book.
