Book Synopsis

A provocative allegory to help individuals and leaders develop a sense of their true identity, permission to dream, and courage to transform

An allegory about an origami crane's dream of becoming a paper plane, Unfolded imparts a philosophy and strategy to help leaders meet their full potential, cultivate better relationships, and grow their leadership capacity. Through purposeful storytelling, the book encourages readers to join a journey of transformation, self-acceptance, and expression, helping them unpack their identity and build confidence in themselves.

Readers will learn how to look within to navigate their lives and about the importance of understanding the internal map of their life story, lived experiences, lessons learned, and shaping relationships. This book gives readers permission to dream and shows readers how to:

  • Work with your feelings of self-doubt, fear, shame, guilt, and judgment when taking the next step forward
  • See play as practice in disguise, and trying as intentional practice
  • Track stories, maps, creases, folds, and dreams to look at your life and learn something important

Unfolded is a critical business book empowering individuals and leaders to begin a discussion on personal wellbeing and professional influence, and help their people understand how meaningful relationships and lived experiences are shaping how they show up on their teams, their families, and in the world.

Praise for Unfolded

"Unfolded is representative of Linda and Brian's life's work, and their belief in the capability of every person. This book is a vessel of hope in the beauty and humanity in each of us."
--DR. CHIP KIMBALL, Former Head of School for the International School of Prague and Superintendent of Singapore American School and Lake Washington School District

"A practice in compassion and guidance, the story of Unfolded makes the important distinction that rather than suggesting who someone should or should not be, it is an invitation to become who we believe ourselves to be."
--JULIE ALLEMAN, CEO, Children and Adult Disability & Educational Services

"A thought-provoking allegory about transformation, growth, and spirituality. For those seeking congruence, integrity, creativity, and joy in both their professional and personal lives, Unfolded is a transformative guide."
--DR. KEITH ANDERSON, President Emeritus, The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology

"Unfolded urges us to pursue our purpose by embracing our dreams, understanding our life's stories, and seeking support from the community around us. We can inspire and help others as they pursue their own transformation--and this is the heart of what great leaders do."
--DUCHESNE DREW, Senior Vice President, American Public Media Group and President of Minnesota Public Radio

"Unfolded is a captivating and creatively written book that will engage you, develop you, and challenge you at a deeper level. We all need to fly to greater heights while positively impacting more people and this fascinating new book provides us with the flight plan."
--RICH HORWATH, New York Times Bestselling Author of Strategic

"The Schubrings' ability to weave such powerful lessons in leadership and humanity into a story resonates in a deeply personal way. Unfolded reminds us all that we must bring our best selves to every interaction and that words and deeds can and do have a profound impact on others."
--ELIZABETH HOEMEKE, CIO, One Inc.

90 minutes of reading for a lifetime of inspiration!

As someone that has been going through a career shift and has felt lost, uninspired and frustrated this book was a breath of fresh air and gave me hope for what was to come next for me. Linda and Brian’s writing not only spoke to me but to my soul, awakening something I hadn’t felt for a long time - hope.
