Incredible story!
5 out of 5 stars
Rebekah Lewis - 4 years ago
Everytime I read one of Blackburn's book I rediscover how much of an awesome author she is. One of the best in the business at writing suspense, action, romance and Christianity. Unknown Threat didn't disappoint, characters with layer after layer. And a plot that keeps thickening. Faith and Luke had my attention at page one. Luke is this hard headed, secretive guy with a grudge against every FBI agent. FBI agent Faith Malone is not the chick to mess with. She's as equally hard headed and refuses to be pushed around. Now she's just gotta convince Luke she's not the enemy. They work diligently on this case with twists and turns you don't see coming. Luke and Faith's love story! I haven't read that kind of passion in awhile. You know the love stories that give you butterflies in your tummy? This was definitely that!! But the best part was that it never overshadowed the suspense and mystery. And the same vice versa. It was genius writing on Blackburn's behalf. Her writing style is always one of my favorites. I simply cannot wait for book two in the series ! ** I was given a free copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are completely my own. I was in no way required to give a positive review.**
Excellent Story

This is my favorite book by this author because it is non stop action. Right away we are swept into a devious plot to take out Secret Service agents. The bodies start to pile up as someone is targeting men and women in high profile jobs. When Faith from the FBI takes on the investigation you can feel a sense of purpose in her . She is a no nonsense very determined woman. She takes her job seriously and is determined to unravel the mystery that is taking lives. I liked her way of shifting through evidence and working angle’s that others may have overlooked. Secret Service Special Agent Luke is lucky to be alive after being shot at, car bombs going off and houses exploding around him. Who is after him and why? I liked the working relationship between Faith and Luke. There are a few moments that made me laugh because they both tried so hard not to show interest in each other. The story is a race to find out who is taking out agents and the twists are plenty. At first I had suspected someone but I was so wrong. The author does an excellent job of keeping readers guessing in this explosive story. The faith element is woven throughout the book and shows how the characters learned to trust again. I have to say I never put the book down until I was finished. It is action packed and full of surprises. I received a copy of this book from Revell Reads Blogger Program. The review is my own opinion.
Intense Suspense!

This book starts out with a bang, and I mean that literally. Two Secret Service agents are shot, and then almost killed, when both of their cars are rigged to explode. From then on, it's a race to find who targeted Luke Powell and his co-worker, Zane Thacker, and who killed three of their fellow agents. An intense investigation begins, with FBI agents joining the search, and Luke finds himself working along side of Faith Malone, the lead FBI agent in the case. They've known each other before, but will their working together create another explosive situation? I had the pleasure of reading all three of the books in the Dive Team Investigations series, and they made me a forever fan of Lynn H. Blackburn. This author shares excitement, suspense, and strong faith messages in her books, and Unknown Threat is certainly no different. Blackburn has a knack for creating unique characters who are both fragile and strong, and she always gives them a chance to grow emotionally and spiritually. She also creates plots that leave you wondering "just how did that happen?" I was kept guessing until the end and I look forward to seeing what's in store for the other characters in this Defend and Protect series. Unknown Threat is a fantastic read and I recommend it to all who enjoy enjoy heart-racing and page-turning Christian romantic suspense. I received a copy of this book from Revell. There was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own opinions.

How do you fight back against an enemy you don't know? Luke Powell, Secret Service Special Agent narrowly escapes an attempt on his life, a seemingly random attack that is similar to the recent events that took the lives of three of his friends. FBI Agent Faith Malone is s sharp agent with a rising star, assigned to the case investigating the murder of Luke's friends. Together they must untangle the web of murder and intrigue before anyone else loses their life. A high stakes suspense that builds over the course of the story, I liked how it balances the suspense with strong character development, as well as what is going on with some of the other agents that we will likely read about a couple of them in upcoming books. A riveting read, with a lot going on, and effective storytelling. Luke has really been through a lot in the last few months and weeks, I loved that he had a great group of friends around him, he is a natural defender, with strong faith, and is willing to fight to bring the killer to justice. Faith is focused, independent, and a more private person. I liked how working with Luke drew her out, as well as getting to know her sister Hope. Overall, a well crafted action-packed read with engaging characters and a twisting storyline that had me hooked. I can't wait to see what is next for this series. Perfect for fans of Christian suspense! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Page-turner
5 out of 5 stars

This is the first book that I have read by Lynn Blackburn but it felt familiar. I had to go back and look at what she has written to be sure that I had not read her before. The reason her writing is so familiar is that she writes like several of my favorite suspense authors. Unknown Threat is the first book in her newest series, Defend and Protect. This novel grabbed my attention from the first scene where we meet Luke and his buddy Zane. Luke and Zane are with Secret services and have unknowingly walked into a trap. Luke is an all-around good guy, hard-working, protective of his friends, and hates the FBI. He holds hurts from his childhood, yet tries to stay objective in the case that he has to work with FBI agent Faith Malone. Faith is close to her sister Hope but has trouble getting close to anyone else. She also holds onto hurts that happened in her childhood and it makes it hard for her to trust in other people. Faith comes across as strong, driven, level-headed, always in charge of her cases and her emotions. While Faith seems to get along with everyone, her co-worker Janice seems to have a vendetta against her. It does not help when Faith is assigned the lead on the case with the Secret Service agents. Unknown Threat is a real page-turner. I was annoyed when I had to put the book down to get stuff done. It is a quick read. The characters are well developed and relatable. None of them are perfect and the friendship and care that they show toward each other is touching. This book is high on mystery and low on romance. It was impossible to figure out who the "unknown" threat was and kept me guessing until the end. There is humor sprinkled throughout the book that helps to dissolve some of the intensity. There is also an element of faith, not in a preachy way, but subtle. I cannot say enough good things about this book. It has a nice mixture of so many elements. This is a must-read for anyone who loves a good suspense novel! I cannot wait for the next in the series. Fans of Terri Blackstock, Colleen Coble, Lynette Eason, Cara Putnam, and Patricia Bradley will not want to miss this one! Lynn Blackburn joins my list of favorite suspense authors.

Lynn Blackburn's new series Defend and Protect has an explosive new start with Unknown Threat. Secret Service agents are being attacked and killed from an unknown assailant. Since they don't investigate their own the FBI is brought in. These two agencies do not always play nice together. Luke Powell is with the Secret Service and Faith Malone is with the FBI. They both have their own issues that complicate working together but there is a definite draw to the other. As the danger heats up so does their personal relationship. Lynn Blackburn's ability to paint a moving picture through words is on full display in this story. You can smell the explosives, feel the tension rising, taste the Cherry Coke, and hear the whisper of footsteps by an intruder. She has given us an interesting variety of characters that I personally look forward to reading more about in the coming books. She has done a masterful job of portraying our defenders. Her in-depth research into these fields makes the story believable and allows the reader to become totally engrossed in the tale. If you are a fan of crime dramas I think you will enjoy this novel and series. At the end of this book there is a sneak peek of book two and it has me eagerly anticipating it's release. I highly recommend you check this book out. I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
Edge-of-your-seat Suspense

Unknown Threat by Lynn H. Blackburn is the first book in her Defend and Protect series. Someone has it in for the Secret Service Agents in Raleigh, North Carolina. Agents are dying in unusual circumstances. FBI Special Agent Faith Malone is brought in to solve the case. She teams up with US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell and a few of his fellow agents. But everybody seems to be in danger from the unknown assailant. From the first page to the last it felt like I was in an action movie. Every page was filled with action and suspense. The chemistry between Faith and Luke was there but it didn’t overwhelm the story. If the rest of the series keeps pace with the beginning then we are in for a very intense ride! I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

A small office of eight Secret Service Agents has had three of their people killed and two others wounded. Despite FBI Agent, Faith Malone, working around the clock, there doesn’t seem to be any reason for the killings. Nothing makes sense. What had that office done to cause mass shootings and explosions to take place? This exciting story will use all the resources of the local police, FBI and Secret Service in an attempt to solve it. As Faith tries to piece together the puzzle, more death attempts take place. Will she be able to uncover the guilty one before anyone else is hurt or killed? This fast-moving tale has a twist at the end that reveals the mastermind behind it all. Told from a Christian viewpoint, this is a clean 5-star story. It will be enjoyed by those who like thrilling mysteries with a touch of romance. Revell Publishing has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, Unknown Threat, for the purpose of review.

Unknown threat by Lynn H Blackburn is well worth the read. Set in NC. It is the first of a series of great new characters, including the two main Luke and Faith. You are in a treat for a suspense turner that includes being held by knife point, explosions, death of those who protect us. With a believable romance along the way. I so can not wait to revisit with the characters as the series progress. Also, it is a suspense that you will not guess who is the threat. The plot twist keeps you devouring every word to the end, and then you groan because you want to keep reading. I received a ARC but was not required or influenced to write a review. These are my personal views.

Unknown Threat by Lynn H. Blackburn shares the story of US Secret service special agent Luke Powell. Tragedy is running through his department as many of his coworkers have died recently in unusual circumstances. However, FBI Special Agent Faith Malone is investigating the case. The glitch is that the FBI and the Secret Service do not get along. They do not think highly of each other. Who is attacking the Secret Service? Will Faith ever be able to solve the crime? What are her issues with men? Unknown Threat is a fun, gripping, and captivating story. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The twist and turns that it takes keep you interested and makes it a fantastic read. You need to hang on until the end to find out what is going on. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was happy to do. I highly recommend.

This is the first book I have read by Lynn H. Blackburn and it is the first in a new series called “Defend and Protect”. I was so excited that within the first three pages I figured out that the book is set in Raleigh, North Carolina. I love books set in places in North Carolina but especially ones set somewhere I have not only been but know well. The main characters, Faith Malone and Luke Powell, even go to a restaurant that I really like called Relish, and Faith gets their Mac & Cheese which is so good. Do not worry this book is good for many other reasons such as the great characters and the suspenseful situations going on. This book keeps you at the edge of your seat until the very end. Also I love that the chapters are not really long which makes the book feel like it reads faster. And speaking of love, the romance in this book is done really well too. I am looking forward to the next one in this series. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in order to give an honest review.

If I could give Unknown Threat more than 5 stars, I would! Lynn H. Blackburn has woven together a story that is a well balanced mix of suspense, fear, hope, faith and just the right amount of romance. When someone is determined to kill an entire unit of US Secret Service members, the FBI is brought in. Sparks fly between the hero and heroine as they work together to solve the mystery of who wants the Secret Service agents dead and why. There’s also a couple of twists in the story. This is an edge of your seat, gripping, hard to put down novel. Lynn H Blackburn is undoubtedly a great author! I received an ARC from the publisher with no expectation for a good review.

3.5 stars "I wonder how long it will take me to hop in a car and take off without checking it for a bomb?" U.S. Secret Service Agent Luke Powell has every right to feel unnerved after he and fellow agent Zane Thacker were nearly killed following a car bomb/shooting incident in the parking lot off their favorite trailhead. As it was, both ended up in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but some of their fellow agents had been less fortunate, losing their lives in similar incidences. There is every indication that someone is meticulously trying to eliminate agents from their particular office. But, why? That's the million dollar question, and F.B.I. Special Agent Faith Malone has been tasked with finding the answer. It's Faith's first big case as an agent-in-charge and it just happens to involve someone she knows, Luke Powell. They've always had an easy camaraderie, in spite of the lingering lines of mutual distrust between their agencies; on this case though, it is going to be extremely crucial to pool their resources together as a team. As time advances, and more agents are targeted, Faith hovers just outside the boundary of despair. The evidence isn't fitting together in any sort of discernable pattern, meanwhile; they are living each day under the cloud of an unknown threat. Just when things start to heat up in the case, Luke and Faith muddy the waters by admitting their mutual attraction, which could very well get one of them killed, for "she'd never imagined anyone would literally try to give his life for her . . . . . " What a great story! Readers will cheer for this impressive team of experts while vicariously staying on the lookout for ways to help them. . . . . . because of course, there are many more people for them to "defend and protect".

Lynn Blackburn has become one of my favorite authors in the Christian mystery/suspense genre. I loved the “Dive Team Investigations” series and hated to leave those characters behind. This book is a clear indication that this series is going to be every bit as intriguing as the “Dive Team” series. The focus on this book is on FBI Special Agent Faith Malone and US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell. When someone begins targeting and attempting to kill secret service agents, Faith takes the lead on the investigation. Luke and Faith must learn to work together, but soon their regard for each other turns toward wondering if they could have a future together. But as the investigation grows more complicated and the danger to both of them quickly ramps up, their survival seems uncertain. The characters in this book are believable and pull you into their personal stories. The storyline is intense from the very beginning of the book. I loved the twists that come along at just the right moment in the plot. This book is a page-turner and confirms this author’s place in the top tier of Christian suspense writers. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Oh my goodness! This book has nonstop action that starts on page one and continues until the very end. I could not put the book down! I love how Lynn Blackburn can write on-your-seat action without compromising character development or romance. I really liked reading about Faith and Luke. Their characters are complex and yet easy to get to know in the story. The romance is clean and believable. And I loved that we had some cameos from characters in the Dive Team series! I liked the spiritual integration of trusting God to bring healing from the past and bring restoration in the future. The suspense in the novel kept me up at night as I frantically flipped through the pages to find the villain. This was truly a great novel to read! I am eagerly looking forward to more in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Wowza! This book was fantastic! I have read and loved all of Lynn Blackburn's books to date. She is without a doubt my favorite Christian Fiction Suspense author. This book however was to put it simply, incredible. I loved the humor and the banter in the book especially between Luke and Faith. That was probably my favorite element of the book. Faith is awesome especially because she shares my love of Cherry Coke! That was a fun connection for me. And Luke....I think he is going to become a book boyfriend for me! He was definitely swoon worthy, all protective and superheroey. I really liked the rest of the new team in this series too and I look forward to getting to know all of them better in the coming books in the series. The mystery and plot of the book is so so good. It had me guessing and caring about these characters as they worked to solve the case. All in all, I absolutely loved this book and now I am sad because I have to wait months for book # 2 in the series. It can't come soon enough for me!! I received this book from the publisher and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

This read kept me page turning and holding my breath, all the while not really believing what was happening, and then another incident that you will never see it coming. Bombs, bullets, and threats, but we get to watch and guess as to who would be so evil. Surprised at the ending, and I never guessed, and in the end all it would have taken was talking, but why are the good guys being targeted? I knew when I saw a new book by Lynn Blackburn I was in for a great read, and boy I was not wrong, what an amazing novel. If you like a a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this one will not disappoint, and then we are given a sweet romance to warm your heart. Will the agents find out who is trying to kill them? Or will all of them succumb to this madman? I received this book through Net Galley and Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.

With the perfect blend of romance and suspense, Unknown Threat, the first installment in award winning author Lynn H. Blackburn’s Defend and Protect series, is sure to delight readers. This book is absolute perfection… romance, suspense, humor, fast-paced action, wonderful characters, and faith. Lynn H. Blackburn continues to do a fabulous job incorporating characters of diverse backgrounds into her storylines, including Unknown Threat’s heroine Faith Malone, who is half Cherokee. She consistently creates characters who readers care about long after the final page, such as charismatic and swoon-worthy US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell. Luke is giving Dive Team Investigator Gabe Chavez some serious competition as my favorite hero of Lynn H. Blackburn’s. The background on the United States Secret Service is fascinating as most people think Secret Service agents only serve on protection details of VIPs, and the cameos from beloved Dive Team members are a special treat for longtime fans of the author. Unknown Threat is highly recommended for readers of romantic suspense, especially those who enjoy books by authors such as Dani Pettrey, Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason, and Rachel Dylan. Unknown Threat has been my most anticipated book of the year, and it will definitely be on my list of top 10 books of 2021. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

Lynn Blackburn's first series, Dive Team Investigations, is one of the best suspense series I have ever read. I was sad to see it end, and couldn't wait for her new series to start. Book one is finally here...well it will be March 2. One thing I like in books is character development and interactions between characters that go beyond one book. Blackburn's previous series had those in spades, and Unknown Threat promises that this series will also. I loved these characters: Faith, the FBI agent tasked with who is killing Secret Service agents, and Luke who has already lost close friends and is in danger himself...he was especially a great character. There is also a great cast of characters who will have their stories played out in the upcoming books in the series. The suspense.......wow. The book was very unpredictable. You didn't know what was going to happen next, and who would be involved. I didn't want to put the book down, so I just kept reading to the great ending. The plot was one where the reader has no clue who the bad guy is, or why he is killing the Secret Service agents. I totally loved this book, and can't wait for the next one. Blackburn is getting better with each book she writes. I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions in this review are my own.

"People say it's best to fall in love with someone who is very much like you. I guess that's true sometimes. But sometimes love happens, and the joy of it is discovering how to love someone who isn't like you at all." What an adrenaline-filled start to the new series Defend and Protect! Lynn H Blackburn has outdone herself with this newest book. It has everything a romantic suspense fan could possibly want - a fast-paced and intricately woven plot, that elusive villain, wonderful characters who really bring the book to life, sweet romance, easy-to-read writing style, funny and often witty dialogue, and a great faith thread with themes of forgiveness and reconciliation. It's a must-read book for 2021! This new series sends the readers to the US Secret Service office based in Raleigh, NC and Luke is determined to find the murderer of his friend and mentor. When he and the other agents in his office become targets, Faith from FBI steps in to lead the investigation of both events. Luke is the steady, loyal, dependable alpha hero but isn't afraid to let Faith take the lead, though he has some past issues with the FBI. Faith is the driven, intelligent workaholic who has something to prove to the world and has trust issues with men. The story line is quite fascinating and has multiple gasp-worthy twists and turns. I also enjoyed learning about what actually takes place within the Secret Service office and what the agents do when not in protective detail. The secondary characters of Gil, Zane, and Tessa are seamlessly integrated into the plot and I'm looking forward to future books in the series about these Secret Service agents. And for those who are fans of the previous Dive Team Investigations series, you'll be squealing with delight when certain characters make cameo appearances. Those who enjoy nail-biting suspense will totally love this book. I received the book from Revell/Baker Publishing Group and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.
