Reduced oil consumption on a 2010 Toyota Camry

I had my 2010 Toyota Camry, with the 2AR-FE engine, oil changed to Valvoline R&P 0W-20 about 4 weeks ago. Before using Valvoline R&P, I had my synthetic oil changed at a Toyota dealership between 6000 and 8000 km intervals. About 3 months ago, the car start burning oil... about one liter every 2000km. Prior to that time, I did not need to add oil between oil changes. I have just completed 2000 km on my car and the oil consumption has been reduced to about half a liter per 2000 km. The car engine is also a lot quieter. The oil is not that dark as I have had this car serviced on a regular basis. I plan to have the oil and filter changed at about 4000/5000 km which is about 2500/3100 miles depending on how dark the oil gets. I am pleased with this product so far. I hope this product will be sold in Canada soon. I had somebody buy this product for me in the USA. I would also like to see a 0W-30 grade.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve seen the science behind this product. So I’m excited. I know I have to stick with it for a bit but I’m going to try it. I have to change the oil anyway so might as well see how it plays out
Always great products!

I’ve been using Valvoline oil but when this restore and protect came out I gave it a try and I’m on my 2nd oil change with it my car a 2017 Honda CRV drive smooth and quiet. I’ll drive to Vegas in July and see how it performs in the heat. I also use Valvoline CVT transmission fluid now and it’s been great! Can’t go wrong with these products! Highly recommend!

Before I started using Restore and Protect I did a lot of research on it. Then I went to the lubricant pro on YouTube “The Oil Geek”. He went on a tour of the Valvoline facility specifically for this oil and the results were astounding. I also followed some YouTube videos regarding Restore and Protect from just your regular DIYers and their results were amazing. I’m on my 3rd oil change and this oil is exactly as advertised. I drive a 2014 Ford F250 4X4 with the 6.2L V-8 gasoline engine. My performance has improved significantly as well as my mileage.

OMG! This stuff really works. 2007 Cadillac Escalade SUV with a 6.2L engine. I have had 5 oil changes in 14,000 miles. The engine is running great, and I recommend this oil to everyone!

It’s working. I put it in and oil started turning darker. After about 500 miles I replaced the filter and it cleared the oil up. Now I’m at 3200 and ready to change for run #2
Great Product!

My 2002 corolla with 120k miles used to burn 1qt of oil every 500-800 miles. I used restore and protect for ONE oil change, ever since then I just use regular high mileage full synthetic and now it only burns 1/2 a quart every 5000 miles!!!! 10/10 would reccomend on your old oil burning Toyota engine!
Beware!

I borescope my engine cylinders before I used this product. Didn’t have no scratches. Now two oil changes later I have a bunch of deep scratches on my cylinder walls that weren’t there before so I have reason to believe this product caused these scratches and increase my oil consumption & cylinder wear. I’m very very surprised and disappointed. My engine gets good oil changes every 3000 miles never had an issue until now. I have images to prove it before, and after same cylinder..

I have a 2017 Hyundai so, of course I am concerned about the engine! It is a Korean built non turbocharged engine but....I change oil and filter every 4K my self and have used Quaker State Ultimate Protection. At the last change (57,000) it was down 1/4 quart. Not bad but had never used oil between changes before. Same thing at 61,000. Based on research and reviews switched to R&P. Just did 2nd at 65,000. Still used about 1/4 quart But, for the first time ever, the oil was a little dark. Might be doing something! Will continue through the 4 recommended cycles. Seems to run smoothly.

My 2008 Land Rover LR3 was burning oil due to a stuck piston ring in cylinder 8. It would show low compression on a cold start but normal compression after adding oil into the cylinder. I was losing approximately a quart every 2K miles. I tried BG EPR but it did not fix the oil consumption. I then tried Restore and Protect and the oil consumption issue is completely fixed and I'm about 4000 miles into the oil change. I plan on changing the oil every 5K miles and sticking with restore and protect.

Thanks to Lake Speed Jr "The Motor Oil Geek," and his videos on You Tube, I decided to try the 'new' 5W30 'Restore and Protect' full synthetic in my supercharged 2017 V6, manual Camaro ... EVEN THOUGH it is not DEXOS rated. Because of the supercharger installed by the previous owner, any possibility of a warranty of any kind is not happening. So, limiting my choices to a DEXOS oil (IMO) is irrelevant if it's only to preserve my (nonexistent) warranty. My 1st oil change in the car was ~2,000 miles ago, September 2024, to Amsoil XL 5W30. But I was SO intrigued by the R&P and Lake's comments on his videos, that I had to try it, as the previous owner's preventative maintenance seemed really sketchy to me due to a ton of issues I found after buying the car (fried manual trans fluid, total sludge, metal shavings and differential parts falling out when changing the diff fluid, etc). So I thought that at the least the R&P could at least help clear out the oil passages, etc from the crud my gut told me had to be in there (having VVT and DOHC as well, I'm sure the car needed it at 85,000 miles) - it couldn't hurt anyway. So yesterday, New Year's Day, 2025, I was in my garage draining the still relatively fresh Amsoil out. New, pre-filled filter installed and 6 qts of 5W30 R&P went in. The FIRST shock came the second I started the engine with the Valvoline ... the only things I heard were the starter, then the exhaust - NOTHING ELSE. Normally, I would hear some minor engine noises - things that I've hears with most every car I've owned since 1983, including the Camaro. Not this time. The engine was dead silent from the first turn of the key and has stayed that way in the 160 miles since the oil was changed. Shock #2 came this morning, with 95 miles on the oil. Ran an errand, and my rear tires broke loose (spun) on me twice (gentle acceleration). It's currently about 27* F, so I assumed black ice or the inches of salt on the roads caused the loss of traction. After finishing the errand, I got on the highway and immediately noticed my throttle seemed "tight." That's the best way I can desrcibe it. As I drove down the highway, the throttle seemed to get even tighter, and I felt like I was still in 4th gear instead of 6th ... the thottle had become so tight and so responsive, it FELT like I was in too low of a gear, because lifting OFF the gas caused noticable deceleration, light lightly pressing the brake, and would also immediately start to accelerate with the lightest touch of the gas. I checked the oil this morning, before heading out, and it was exactly where it was yesterday on the dip stick, and still perfectly clear. I'm very impressed so far.
Great job Valvoline!

I bought restore and protect 5000 miles ago and just did the first oil change on my 2007 Lexus E350. I was very impressed with it. I could see some old particles in the oil filter that had been removed and my dipstick looked like it was brand new when previously it was yellow, brown, and stained. Now I just need Valvoline to come out with this in a 0-16 or a 0-8.
Seems to have cleared up pinging

This oil seems to have cleaned pistons enough to stop occasional pinging in my 4.0L V6 Tacoma. The pinging had been a minor but persistent for probably the last 50,000 miles and would only improve with premium gas and fuel system cleaner. I'm back to running 87 octane gas and zero pinging. I can only attribute this to carbon being cleaned off pistons and thus eliminating any hotspots that would cause pre-ignition. Otherwise, this oil seems to be the same robust Valvoline synthetic oil that I can trust. I'd recommend this oil for any older engine. Seems to do as it advertises!
