Description

This carton of Vital Farms Pasture-Raised Eggs holds 12 Large, Brown, Grade A Certified Humane eggs that come from our collection of small family farms to give you a protein-packed meal.
Vital Farms Eggs begin with pasture-raised hens who enjoy a minimum of 108 square feet each of room to roam on small family farms. Our girls have the freedom to forage for local grasses, succulents and wildflowers on rotated pastures while enjoying fresh air and sunshine. Vital Farms began as a single-family farm. As we grew, we didn’t make our farm bigger – we found more like-minded farmers who put the welfare of their feathered friends first. Today, we work with over 350 small family farms who give the girls the outdoor lifestyle they deserve.

Q: Are these certified humane?

submitted by Jennifer - 3 months ago
  • A: They used to be but I am suspicious now that a ‘glitch’ took down their info. I looked at the photos too and didn’t see it.

submitted byJLH - 3 months ago
  • A: Hi Jennifer! Thank you for reaching out to us. Yes, our eggs are Certified Humane. Certified Humane audits a batch of our farms once per year. Additionally, every one of our 350+ farms is audited by Whole Foods every 15 months. Furthermore, our team does internal compliance audits on every one of our farms at least annually. Finally, every one of our farms has a dedicated Vital Farms farmer support team member who regularly visits the farm to offer support and to monitor whether the farmer is upholding our high ethical standards. We hope this helps, but please feel free to email us at info@vitalfarms.com if you have any additional questions.

Q: Is this egg fertilized?

submitted by Je - 5 months ago
  • A: Hi Je! It is always our intention for our eggs to be unfertilized as our flocks are typically a girls only affair. It would be extremely rare to get a fertile egg from us in any of our brands. While that is the case, our eggs are not guaranteed to be unfertilized. When our farmers receive the teenage hens from a pullet raiser, we do very occasionally get a rooster or two. As some of our farmers let them stay on the farm, there is a very small possibility that some eggs might be fertilized. That is a rarity though, so it would not be common to receive any fertile eggs from our ladies. Even if an egg were to be fertilized, our eggs are cooled upon collection and kept cold until they are purchased, which would prevent incubation.

Q: Do the hens ever consume soy or corn in their feed or otherwise?

submitted by Bren - 3 years ago
  • A: Vital Farms hens spend their days foraging in the pastures, seeking out native and seasonal grasses like clover, rye, and wild onion. They don’t stop with plants, though! You’ll often catch their girls munching on a grasshopper or snacking on a worm. Alongside the food they forage, the girls receive supplemental feed. The supplemental feed consists primarily of corn and unprocessed soybean meal, which the hens need for protein, as well as additional natural ingredients including paprika and marigold, which, along with their outdoor snacks, provide nutrients and help the hens produce eggs with deep orange yolks that our consumers prefer. Their supplemental feed is developed by an animal nutritionist, ensuring the girls receive all the nutrients they need to support their health, active lifestyles, and overall wellbeing.

Although it’s double the price, these are worth it to me! I love eggs and you can actually taste the difference! These are delicious, yolks are bright orange as they should be, and I know I’m having something good. If I only can afford to get one thing on my list that’s “organic” or healthy, it’s going to be this.

Hi there—We appreciate that you checked in with us regarding this concern. The claims floating around are inaccurate, and we’re here to set the record straight. We work with over 350 family farms, and each hen gets access to 108 square feet of pasture year-round. We’ve been walking the walk on pasture-raised for a long time.  How do we make sure? We have several forms of internal and external auditing in place to ensure each and every farm adheres to our pasture-raised standards. Certified Humane audits every farm every year and Whole Foods audits our farms every 15 months. Our team also does internal compliance audits on every one of our farms at least annually. On a more day-to-day basis, each of our farms has a dedicated Vital Farms farmer support team member who regularly visits the farm to offer support and to monitor whether the farmer is upholding our high ethical standards.  You can find our full statement here: https://vitalfarms.com/whats-happening-with-the-vital-farms-lawsuit/ Please reach out to us if you have any further questions.

Vital Farms is the best! So… cage-free and free-range are actually just buzzwords and typically the eggs come from farms that are very overcrowded. Free range only requires the size of a newspaper per hen in the facility; many of these birds have never been outdoors in their lives. Pasture raised eggs are the only ones that are guaranteed from hens on open pastures eating bugs and organics the way chickens are meant to. This also means more nutritionally dense eggs due to higher vitamin and mineral content from a diverse, natural diet. You’ll see this in the eggs as they have a deep orange yolk instead of light yellow! All that to say, vital farms is the healthiest and most humane choice for eggs; I’ve been exclusively eating these for several years and they have been excellent quality every time, and they’re certified humane! Also fun fact: They have leaflets inside the cartons featuring their chicken of the month which is adorable and fun for you and your kids to get to know the hens :)

Vital Farms eggs are just absolutely outstanding. I have never been a big fan of eggs, to me they are bland and tasteless. These are AMAZING! Great fried, scrambled or whatever your choice happens to be. I love that they are pasture raised, the container is sturdy and festive. The eggs are large, they look great when they hit the pan. You have to try these, yes they are a little higher? But they are well worth the extra money.
