Description
About the Book
Quilters love the look of textural, detailed stitching that adds to the beauty of the quilt top design. This stitching is actually the "quilting" in quilting, and many quilters feel that paying a professional for machine quilting is one of their only options. The walking foot is an accessory for sewing machines that's often used for machine quilting, but many quilters only use it to stitch around their designs. But the walking foot can do so much more, and author Jacquie Gering shows all of her tips, tricks and techniques to master all of the skills needed to quilt with a walking foot. This book covers the basics of using the walking foot, in addition to preparing the quilt, marking, managing large quilts, preventing puckers and keeping lines straight. Chapters will include a variety of types of walking -foot quilting, including channel quilting, matchstick quilting, and decorative stitch quilting. Quilters won't be limited to straight line quilting, either! They'll learn how to quilt spirals, simple curves, and marked curves like braids and clamshells.Book Synopsis
A practical guide to machine quilting using your walking foot by bestselling author and international instructor Jacquie Gering, now in a format with a lay-flat wire-o binding. It's time to get that walking foot out of the ditch, take it for a drive, and see what that baby can really do! Jacquie Gering will be your guide as you work your way from walking foot basics to intricate marked designs as you master machine quilting with your walking foot. In WALK, Gering shares a comprehensive set of walking foot quilting basics that provides a solid foundation for quilting with ease, quality, and creativity. She guides you through a series of test-drives with your walking foot, allowing you to get acquainted with its features and set yourself up for success with your foot and your machine. Then you'll learn how to prepare and mark the quilt, prevent puckers while quilting, and manage large projects. Gering teaches over 40 walking foot-friendly designs, including channel quilting, matchstick quilting, and quilting with decorative stitches. Thought that your walking foot could only be used for straight line quilting? Learn to use the walking foot with traditional designs including cables, clamshells, and orange peels, or finish your quilt with intricate point to point designs like the boomerang and nested diamonds. Quilt graphic, innovative radiating designs. Learn to spiral and quilt concentric designs or use your newly developed skills to quilt unique designs with reserve. You too can achieve the textures shared in Gering's vibrant, graphic quilts.
