With no scary scenes, it focuses on a penguin who wants to have a Christmas tree for the holidays. Charming full-color illustrations grace the pages with easy-to-read font size. In this fun story, a penguin is excited since it was almost time for Christmas. When a friendly narwhal asks him if he put up a tree yet, the little animal is determined to find one. With the narwal telling him trees are found in a forest, he asks his fellow penguins, a walrus, and seagulls how to find a forest out in the middle of an iceberg. When his friends realize how disappointed the penguin is that he cannot find a live tree, they band together to create a special one. ~Why ~ This is a nice tale to read to a young child who loves Christmas and arctic animals. With granddaughters who love narwhals, it includes their favorite creature. I like how the book promotes working as a team to help a friend find happiness. The artwork is simple but expressive. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not like books that only focus on the Christmas tree and not the true meaning of the holiday may not appreciate this book. Others may find the two and three-syllable words too hard for beginner readers, yet it is geared toward pre-school-aged children. ~ Wish ~ I wish this book mentioned Christmas is about Jesus’s birth, although it would be hard to interject it into the storyline. ~ Want ~ If you are looking for a cute read about an adorable penguin searching for a Christmas tree in the arctic snow, this will be engaging to young readers.
