A: I’m not sure, I’m wondering this myself also! If it doesn’t indicate it, I think it’s just for looks. I think there must be a plastic liner used.

This shower curtain is well made, and has a nice pattern. It's very versatile and could go with any type of bathroom decor. I knocked off one star because it had a heavy odor like vomit. Initially, I was planning to hang the curtain and steam out the wrinkles, but the strong odor overpowered the bathroom, so the curtain had to be washed immediately and unfortunately shrank a little bit even on cold wash and delicate dry.
