Q: How many batteries do these need and what type

A: 4 AA batteries. But don't get this one. The plate cover over the batteries does not stay on. It is not well made. I'm answering as a consumer. My daughter got it as a gift and is deeply disappointed.

Q: The bottom piece won't slide back in after batteries are installed and there's no indication (+ or - sign) on the device to orient the batteries.

I really wanted to like this, but I've purchased 2 of them and they both broke pretty easily. Did not even get more than 10 sharpens out of them. Difficult to install batteries and to empty and put the cover back.

The batteries do not fit well in the battery compartment. It was difficult to close the flap for the batteries and then ended up cracking the sharpener. It is not labeled which direction the batteries need to go. We used this twice and the bottom holding the gears together fell off. Not worth the money.

This pencil sharpener is a good option for a low price. It is small and a bit flimsy. The battery compartment is hard to close. It sharpens pencils well and good for colored pencils. It is good for occasional use, if you plan to sharpen a lot, I would go with a bigger, more durable model.

Virtually impossible to get the batteries in without breaking the whole thing. I should have read the reviews first but I thought how bad could a $5 sharpener be? The answer: absolutely worthless Oh, it also stopped working completely before I could even finish writing this review.

Im sure it would have been great, but when I got and opened it and tried putting the batteries in it, one of the spots for the batteries was starting to corrode and when putting the batteries in it would not close and turn on.

It took me forever to get the batteries in this. Finally get them in, my kid dropped it, and the batteries popped out. My wife broke the battery compartment trying to put this back in. I had to tape it shut. I just went to empty it for the first time and that was equally has hard! Super frustrating product. I don’t know how this ever made it off the manufacturing line. I wish I would have read these reviews before buying.

It’s crazy how terrible this product is lol. I won’t repeat what others said but they are not lying about the batteries, the loss of power to the motor, and the lid for the shavings. However you can take the pencil and twist it manually and get it sharpened so it’s not a complete waste of $7.

I didn't know it was possible for a pencil sharpener to be so awful. The batteries are difficult to get good contact in order to operate. The battery case and the pencil shaving's receptacle are both very difficult to open and close. We have spent more time trying to get it to work than sharpening pencils.
