Plastic is flimsy and breaks/cracks easily. Also, the pencil lead tends to get stuck by the sharpener so I constantly have to unjam it, which would be harder for a kid to do. Overall, I would not recommend it nor buy again. You get what you paid for.

I don't know why this sharpener has such good reviews, I've bought it for the last 3 years because its usually the only one available and cheap, but the quality shows for the price. It always comes apart and makes a mess.
