Classy, vintage aesthetics with modern internals
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all, it looks beautiful! The silver is striking, classy, and vintage looking in a great way. I love the way the OLED is small and integrated into the bezel so you can't really tell it's there when it's off. The sound from it is beautiful. My system is in my living room which is a very challenging room acoustically. I am also using speakers that aren't the best. I was delighted when using YPAO that it really smoothed things out for me. It did a great job of making the subwoofer work well with the speakers, and it fixed a lot of the dip from my speakers. I've had other brands before that used a setup mic, but I didn't hear a difference when it was on or off. This is different- in my case, it sounds so much better with YPAO on! And you hifi purists that are upset with me now, I measured my system before and after YPAO using a measurement microphone and pink noise, and it is an ugly graph with YPAO off, but far smoother with it ON. It sounds great playing vinyl, streaming from Tidal, and CDs (using Yamaha's DAC). Overall, couldn't be happier with my choice! #SWEEPSTAKES

Great Amp
The unit has great power and clarity, which makes a huge difference with low sensitivity bookshelf speakers that attempt to extend down into the 30 to 40 Hz region. The one issue I have with the R-N800A is the display. The font is simply too small unless you're directly in front of the unit. The R-N600A is much better in this regard with a different display. However, the amplifier section on the R-N600A is inferior compared to the R-N800A. Yamaha - Please release a firmware update with increased font size for the R-N800A display.

Exceptional!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had the R-N800A for approximately two months and I absolutely love it! It blows my previous 120 watt stereo receiver out of the water. The sound quality is rich, the bass is strong and taut but not overpowering and the overall look and feel is very premium. I debated which color finish to get but eventually went with black because I wanted to buy a matching Yamaha CD player which only comes in black. Unboxing and connections were super easy even though the receiver is quite heavy. I use this mostly for streaming, playing CDs and listing to vinyl. The MusicCast app is user-friendly and convenient. I love that if I'm in another room, I can call it up on whichever device is closest and control the receiver. If there's one thing I'd like Yamaha to change about this, it's the remote. Though the remote does have controls like Play, Pause, etc., they only work for a connected digital media player and unfortunately will not control a Yamaha CD player. #sweepstakes

Great Sound, Robust Features
I love the amplifier, it's powering some KEF LS 50s and sounds great. I think this amp is plenty for most people, Alexa or Google can send your Spotify straight to the amp via MusicCast. Music cast is frustrating because it's not intuitive and seems to have bugs. For instance, this often falls off of my cast list. However, when I open my Spotify, I can usually select it as the place to play music. MusicCast isn't a huge factor because usually us Alex to make my selection and it works well with this Amp. The sound is great I've used ELACs and Tannoy's with it before the KEF's. All worked well and I've never felt like I was short on power. The sound adjustment are nice, the remote is classic Yamaha. The only thing I wish it had was HDMI. I like the pure sound option for records and CDs. If you're building a nice 2.1 system and use your TV for streaming you might want the new RN-1000, but if you don't care about using your TV remote for controlling the stereo volume and are ok with music cast or the Yamaha remote I'd suggest this unit and put the money you save into a nice record player.

R-N800ASL - perfect stereo receiver for music lovers!
I spent months doing research to find the perfect foundation for my primary music setup - I considered integrated amps, separate preamps and power amps, and stereo receivers. This unit has everything I was looking for: vintage-inspired appearance, no unnecessary digital inputs (I'm not using this for home theater), reasonable size and weight, excellent price, and adaptability for all of my uses with a variety of built-in functions. I have a turntable connected to the phono input, and also use the built-in FM tuner and internet radio (controlled via the user-friendly MusicCast mobile app). This receiver has a preamp output, so I've actually bypassed the built-in amplifier and connected to a separate power amp for my speaker connections - I don't know that this feature is available on too many other receivers so it was a selling point for me. I know audiophiles hate tone controls, but I like the bass, treble, and balance control knobs on this unit - and they can be bypassed at the touch of the "Pure Direct" button. The remote control is fine but has a lot of controls that I'll mostly never use. The price is amazing in my opinion for what you get, and this is half the weight and has a much smaller footprint than Yamaha's top-end units, so it actually fits on my shelf. This really is perfect for a straightforward, all-in-one music solution. #sweepstakes
