Black Beyond Measure

Black Beyond Measure (115)

Celebrating Black life, in real life.

In January, we started a mission to honor Black communities every day of the year. Now, we’re bringing that mission to life. This is your space, to reclaim your story, live in your purpose and lift others as you rise. This is your space, made for all of your Blackness, the ancestors that heal you and the legacy you leave behind. This is your place to be Black Beyond Measure. This is our journey to create change together.

Great stories start with extraordinary people

  • We partnered with a team of 12 Black storytellers & 17 people across the country to uplift and empower all dimensions of Blackness. Learn more about some of the featured faces in our video.

  • Living my truth “My Blackness, queerness and transness are essential parts of who I am. I choose to present myself to the fullest of my extent. I choose to be a beacon to everyone who experiences that feeling of ‘otherness.’

Cherry Jaymes Trans Model & Advocate

  • Father & son duo “My father had a long, accomplished career as a dancer, professor and choreographer. He taught me to lead by example. When we collaborate, there is a shared understanding and appreciation for the work we create as a family—and as Black artists.”

Clyde & Lee Father & Son Artists

  • Black & proud “Being Black has given me an awareness of all of the struggles of so many people before me—and the struggles we still endure today. This is a big motivating factor for me to reach my full potential. I teach my son the same thing—to know his family history and to be proud of where he comes from.”

    Lorne Father

  • “Being a frontline worker during this pandemic is heart-wrenching yet rewarding. Simple things like holding hands with sick patients makes me grateful to be alive. When chaos is met with kindness, the reason I became a nurse is so clear to me.”

    Eugenia Nurse

  • Soulful love “Black love is a soulful and celebratory practice steeped in ancestral memory and spiritual traditions. After 53 years together, our connection is deep and abiding. Our presence is the future we dreamed of long ago.”
