Cannot get replacement dethatcher wheels - Caution
The unit itself works great IF the tines on the dethatcher ring haven't broken, which they will do quite fast if you dare to get close to any solid object with it. And sadly, SunJoe does not make replacement dethattcher rings anymore, I originally bought three wheels once I found out how fast the tines broke but now I need another unit and they haven't made them for over a year as I did write in earlier and they claimed they were "in production" and now, almost one year later they no longer even show up on the website at all. So basically if you buy one of these, you may get one or two uses out of it before the dethatcher wheel is shot and then you just spent all the money on a unit that no longer can be used,

Great product!

Worth it!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the Sun Joe 12.6-inch Scarifier/Dethatcher and I’m really happy with it. Packaging: Came well-packed, no damage, and assembly was quick. Use: Very easy to push around, strong motor, and does a great job pulling out thatch. The bag works but fills quickly, so I rake for larger areas. Specs: Lightweight, adjustable depth, and covers a good width. Overall, it’s a great tool for small to medium lawns. Quiet, easy to use, and worth the price.

A true lawn game changer, professional results!
I wish I had bought the Sun Joe Scarifier + Lawn Dethatcher years ago. Assembly took less than 10 minutes and was very easy. It comes with two drums, scarifier and dethatcher, and mine arrived with the scarifier installed. I read the manual and, since I bought this in early September after a dry summer, it was not recommended to use the scarifier, so I swapped to the dethatcher in under two minutes with two screws. I put on the protective glasses that came with it and went to work. The handle near the base makes it simple to set the depth. This thing is powerful. It chewed through the thatch that was suffocating my grass. I could not believe how easy it was or how much debris was hiding under the turf. I filled three 30 gallon bags in no time. In previous years I used a rake and it took forever. No more raking for me. I cannot wait for next summer to give the lawn a deeper breath with the scarifier, and I will dethatch more often now that I have this little monster. The dethatcher is perfect for a first pass, the scarifier opens the soil for overseeding, and the depth knob makes dialing it in simple. The unit is light, easy to steer, and the electric motor starts instantly every time. My lawn already looks healthier, thicker, and more even. The 2 year Sun Joe warranty is a nice bonus. Incredible value, and a keeper for annual spring and fall tune ups.

Brittle
It works but the gears that run the device blades are as brittle as can be. You may only do very soft jobs. Even for home use is not strong enough. i do not recommend

This is one tough tool.
This little guy looks like it's not heavy-duty enough to last long but this is my third year with it and it's a workhorse. I dethatch a couple of times a year and scarify annually. It has brought my 20-year-old lawn back to looking like new. I live at 5,000 Ft elevation and my lawn gets a lot of dead grass from the winter. This tool cleans that out for new growth just as advertised.

Stopped working after less than 3 hours of use. Mechanically, it appears to be fine; however, it will not turn on. Perhaps a blown fuse?

Well Worth The Money
I bought this after doing some research on YouTube. I'd rake every year and tire out quickly. Hiring someone to do it was out of the question. Assembly wasn't too bad and you do not need any additional tools. I was blown away with how well it worked. The dead grass came up so easily. While it makes it easier, physically, this job will take you all day. My grass was previously mowed. I dethatched, mowed, dethatched again and mowed again. The machine is not heavy at all. The only downfall was having to deal with the cord. Also, I took the advice of others and didn't bother with the bag. Well worth every penny!

I did not believe what I saw on the videos. And I wanted to try it myself... The videos and comments dont describe how amazing this machine works. after using it in our yard, it looks like a new entire home to me.

You get what you paid for
The gears broke on the second usage. The parts are made of plastic which allows the tool to be cheap, but I would pay the extra money next time and get parts made of solid metal so it will actually last.

Love this dethatcher!
I must say that this is the best lawn tool from Sun Joe yet. I wasn't sure what to expect but as soon as I started to use it, I was very impressed. I've only used it for dethatching and it did an amazing job with very little effort. It is powerful yet lightweight. My lawn is small to mid-size and I got it done in no time. The only thing I have to comment on is the catcher bag: it really has no purpose due the small size, so I don't use it. I'll pick up the dead grass with the lawn mower. Thanks for a great product!

It will break in less than 2 years. I've gone through 3 Sun Joe dethatchers in 4 years. They covered one replacement via the warranty but they would not assist when that replacement broke after 2 uses. I am good to my yard equipment and this brand is just garbage. Also avoid their pressure washers, also garbage

Replacement Parts available very poor.
My review is only good for 3 stars. Aj801E Raking depth adjustment lever to adjust the height of the machine to thatch has small little knob to hold the lever in place has broken off and cannot adjust height anymore. I have don't see where I can replace the lever here at Sun Joe. All parts should be made available to replace on the machine regardless

Totally worth the purchase!
The Sun Joe dethatcher is great! 10 minutes to assemble, 30 seconds to swap the dethatcher with the scarifier tool, and super easy to use. I thought I had raked most of the thatch before I bought this, but this thing pulled out way more thatch than I ever could with a rake in a very small fraction of the time it would take to rake.

Used about 4-5 times for about 3 years as a dethatcher and worked great. Tried as a scarifier once and the motor burned out in 5 min. To expensive to only last a short time. They should upgrade the motor or only sell as a dethatcher.

Limited Parts Inventory
I need a raking depth adjustment lever for AJ 801E thatcher. There are only a few parts available and the depth adjustment is not one of them. This makes the entire dethatcher un-usable. I have only used it a couple of times, but it is out a warranty. So I will repair the lever myself using epoxy. The plastic depth stop broke. Don't make frequently used parts out of plastic.

Great (Better Than Expected) Scarifier!
I purchased the Scarifier/Dethatcher based on YouTube videos though I was a bit skeptical it would work on my matted lawn. It was very easy to assemble, all the screw holes lined up perfectly, no extra re-drilling or special tools required! My lawn is overly thick and lumpy though I hand thatched last year. I thought the Sun Joe would bog down quickly so I set it at medium depth to save the motor. After a few rows I lowered it down and ripped up a ton of thatch with the motor humming along nicely! As online reviews stated the grass catcher is pretty useless, plus if it did work I would have had to empty it a couple hundred times. I decided to prop the back door open a little with a stick to see if the machine wouldn't require me unclogging it by hand periodically. Not a good idea... it caught a little rock and nailed me in the shin! So I can attest the motor is plenty powerful! I didn't wear safety glasses but in the future I will. Its pretty fun and easy to use, I am going to make a second pass next week after the moss killer does its job.

Motor gear broken after 35 minutes of light use
Unit worked great for the first two times I used it for some light dethatching. The third time it quit working after 5 minutes. Turns out the VERY LIGHTWEIGHT motor gear was stripped and is not repairable/replaceable. Unit is out of warranty, but only has about 35 minutes of light use before breaking.
