A: ddocmar, Yes, it does benefit from being covered when not in use. You don't want leaves, and other "wind debris" floating into your tabletop fire pit, as well as any surprising light rains. For longevity: first off, I know it is painful, but please read the Instruction Manual. It is important it is to protect it from rain, (no water in the propane jets or especially, in the lava rocks). It has a quick release, so you can pull it inside when frost or rain threatens, and reconnect when you have clear weather for a while. It is powder coated steel, which is rust resistant, but if you live in a humid area, (Florida or Midwest summers come to mind), the rust resistance can only protect it to a certain point, so for years of use in a high humidity area, keeping it inside when not in use, would extend the life of the product. A: Tony, This tabletop fire pit is a 10K BTU producting unit. The Fire Pit connects to a 1 lb. propane tank through the umbrella hole in your table. The wind can affect your tablefire- if you are in a severely windy area, it is not easy to blow out, but it is similar to an open barbeque. If the wind could blow out your BBQ, it can also possibly blow out your fire table. The propane jets are below the lip of the fire bowl, and Lava Rocks can be placed atop and around the jets, so it doesn't happen often.
