This 1,000 grit whetstone is a medium grit. You can use oil or water, no need to soak (It’s made from a synthetic material) you can just sprinkle on the oil or water and start sharpening. I would suggest buying a few higher grits on top of this 1,000. The more polished your blade is the less resistance you’ll have when cutting.

100 grit, excellent coarser!
This stone is great for maintaining your knives' razor-sharp edge. As with most stone sharpeners, this does take some practice but can easily become one of your favorite maintenance activities. I suggest practicing on an inexpensive knife first when you are just getting the feel for stone sharpening. But it is totally worth the time and money for that perfectly clean cut. It just elevates the entire cooking experience.

high quality stone
Super fast, light and leaves a beautiful mirrored polish. This glass whetstone is designed for fast honing. Once you get the hang of using this stone, you will be glad you did. I appreciate the blade more as a result of caring for it with the right products.

A great grit whetstone to have
A great way to sharpen your knives, the 1000 grit whetstone will be a great medium grit stone to use for getting the sharp razor edge back on your Kramer knives. This is a stone that you would want to have; one of the ones that would be used most everytime during sharpenings. Great for both German and Japanese knives.

A perfect little finishing stone, I recommend buying the bridge too with this purchase to hold your stone in place and for a quick and easier sharpening experience.
