Received wrong item and Target refused to take accountability for company they do business with

Was sent incorrect item that was unprofessionally packaged. Thought a family member had sent a gift for one of my children and let my child have wrong item. Now I’m being asked to drop item off at store or stop by a post office (during the holiday season when wait times are insane!) to return item and correct item is now unavailable. Terrible customer service- mistakes happen but completely unacceptable to inconvenience individuals for things that are not their mistake. Target should be ashamed of how they’ve handled this situation.
