A: The opening is about 6.9". Please note that there is a hub, designed to block odors once you open the lid. As an alternative we do have a cat litter disposal system that was created specifically for cats. Including link below:

Diaper Genie Review
I’m really loving the Diaper Genie so far! With a baby on the way, I wanted something that would make diaper changes a little easier and help keep the nursery smelling fresh. The design is convenient, easy to use, and it’s nice being able to toss dirty diapers away without having to run to the outside trash every time. I especially love having it right next to the changing area because it makes those middle-of-the-night diaper changes so much easier. It’s one of those baby items that seems simple, but I can already tell it’s going to get A LOT of use. Definitely a great addition to our nursery!
