submitted byTCLExpert - 1 month agoBrand expertA: Hi CR, thanks for reaching out about TCL S45H S Class 2.0 Channel Sound Bar: USB, HDMI, Bluetooth, Wall Mountable. It's definitely frustrating when your sound bar's audio keeps cutting out! This is a common issue with sound bars and can be caused by various factors. Let's troubleshoot your TCL S45H S Class 2.0 Channel Sound Bar. Here's a step-by-step approach, starting with the simplest fixes: 1. Check All Connections (Most Common Culprit): Power Cable: Ensure the power cable is securely plugged into both the sound bar and a working wall outlet (not a loose power strip). A loose connection can cause intermittent power. Audio Cable (HDMI, Optical, or USB): HDMI ARC: If you're using HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel), ensure the HDMI cable is plugged into the correct HDMI ARC port on both your TV and the sound bar. These ports are usually labeled "ARC" or "eARC". Unplug and firmly re-plug both ends. Optical (TOSLINK): If using an optical cable, ensure both ends are firmly seated and that you hear a slight "click." Optical cables can be fragile; check for any visible kinks or damage. USB: If you're using USB, make sure the cable is firmly seated at both ends. Try a Different Cable: Faulty cables are a very common cause of audio dropouts. If you have a spare HDMI or optical cable, try swapping it out. For HDMI, use a high-quality, certified HDMI cable (preferably a newer version like HDMI 2.0 or 2.1). 2. Power Cycle Everything: Turn off your TV and your TCL S45H sound bar. Unplug both the TV and the sound bar from the wall outlet. Wait for at least 1-2 minutes. This allows the devices to completely discharge and clear any temporary glitches. Plug them back in and turn them on. 3. Check Input Source on Sound Bar: Make sure your sound bar is set to the correct input source (e.g., HDMI ARC, Optical, Bluetooth, USB) that matches how it's connected to your TV or source device. Use the input button on your sound bar's remote or on the sound bar itself to cycle through inputs. 4. Adjust TV Audio Settings: Go into your TV's audio or sound settings menu. Audio Output: Ensure the TV's audio output is correctly set to "External Speakers," "HDMI ARC," or "Optical," depending on how your sound bar is connected. HDMI CEC (if using HDMI ARC): If using HDMI ARC, check your TV's settings for "CEC" (Consumer Electronics Control) or similar features (e.g., "Anynet+" for Samsung, "Bravia Sync" for Sony, "Simplink" for LG, "T-Link" for TCL). Ensure CEC is enabled, as it helps the TV and sound bar communicate. Digital Audio Format: Some TVs default to advanced audio formats (like Dolby Digital Plus, DTS:X, etc.) that your sound bar might not fully support, causing dropouts. Try changing the TV's digital audio output format to PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) or Stereo. This is a more basic, widely compatible format that often resolves cutting-out issues. Disable TV Speakers: Make sure your TV's built-in speakers are turned off in its audio settings. 5. Check for Interference (especially for Bluetooth): If you're using Bluetooth for audio, other wireless devices (Wi-Fi routers, cordless phones, microwaves, other Bluetooth devices) can interfere with the signal. Try moving the sound bar closer to the TV/source device. Move other wireless devices further away from the sound bar. If Bluetooth is the issue, consider switching to a wired connection (HDMI ARC or optical) for more stability. 6. Update Firmware: Outdated firmware on either your sound bar or your TV can cause compatibility issues and bugs leading to audio dropouts. For your TCL S45H sound bar: Visit the TCL support website (support.tcl.com) and go to the "Product Downloads" or "Software & Firmware Updates" section for sound bars. Locate your specific S45H model and follow the instructions to download and install any available firmware updates (often done via a USB drive). For your TV: Check your TV's settings menu for a "Software Update" or "Firmware Update" option. 7. Test with a Different Source: To determine if the issue is with the sound bar or the device sending the audio (e.g., your TV, a streaming stick, a game console), try playing audio from a different source. Connect another device directly to the sound bar if possible, or play audio through your TV's internal speakers (with the sound bar disconnected). If the problem disappears, the issue is likely with your original source device or its connection to the sound bar. 8. Reset the Sound Bar: As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on your TCL S45H sound bar. This will revert all settings to their defaults. Check your sound bar's manual for the specific reset procedure. It often involves pressing and holding a combination of buttons on the sound bar itself, or using the remote control to navigate to a reset option in a menu. If you've tried all these steps and the sound still keeps cutting out, it might indicate a hardware issue with the sound bar itself, and you should contact TCL customer support for further assistance or to discuss warranty options.
